Small hint, on the openWRT project page, there's a tut: mounting a usb-stick as root filesystem.

This also works with the hdd (dev/discs/disc0/disc and part1).

thx gonne check that out later today and try it out as soon as I got the hdd to mount I can add packages to the wrtsystem and make this box into a webserver
But since I'm still a newbe in openwrt(& Linux) I still have a lot to learn but I'm realllllyyy starting to like messing around with linux

Some of the questions could be easily answered by looking at the documents section on http://www.openwrt.org

I can't recommend using it with less unix-administration experience until the x-wrt configuration package works with kamikatze. Shouldn't take long.

I'm working on it
My first thing is to set up dnsmasq the right way
192.168.1.1 modem
192.168.2.1 router
192.168.3.1 wl700ge
It's connected but somehow dns isn't setup right
Time for some fishing on how to set it up right

I replaced the HDD with ext3 filesystem and it is mounted on boot. so far so good. Ihave some questions:

1. Is there a firewall at all?
2. how is it possible to configure the firewall ? (according to http://wiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs/Configuration#head-86d5473427fb2c370aa160e1ab14f7a18fb3b308 there should be file /etc/firewall.user. I do not have it :()
3. how can I enable wifi?

I guess that USB can be enabled by following this tutorial: http://www.macsat.com/macsat/content/view/15/37/ ?

Im also trying to setup dns/network bridging... so more on that later.

Just wanted to note that tutorials for white russian may be totally useless for the heavily reworked devel version: kamikaze.

as you can see fro here: http://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=40786#p40786 then iptables are removed:

- select "Base system" from main menu
- deselect iptables and qos-scripts
I think that released openwrt firmware for wl700ge as it is right now, is not very usefull and more theoretical.

am i wrong?

It should do if you can find the right piece of software for it - I would still hold off a bit on installing openwrt - at least wait until the wl-700ge patches have gone into the development kamikaze code.

switching to HDD root should be done earlier that in done. otherwise all ipk installed modules will be not launched, and user will have to take care to initialize them.

mutch better aproach is Oleg's firware example - set NVRAM variable for HDD boot.
