Hello,

quick question. What latest firmware you suggest for my old WL500B router? The one asus claims 1.8.1.9 as the latest one, but I believe you can suggest me an new one for WL500G router instead. I am experiencing WAN port dies. I didnt have to use WAN port until now and my question is: Will the ASUS latest firmware 1.8.1.9 fix this problem? What version should I use? The question is sending to Antiloop and Oleg since they know about the versions well, but to others as well. I am using "old" Olegs firmware 1.7.5.9-5

Thank you for your reply.

First of all, thank you for your fast reply! I have been to this page before, but it is always better to hear from you guys, before upgrating. Does it mean, that the newest firmware (with the higher number) is the best since it is the "latest" firmware? Thx for your opinion and suggestions.

Hello again,

since I got no suggestions I decided to upgrade from version 1.7.5.9-5 to version 1.9.2.7-7e (using WL500b). However, it failed to upgrade. First of all, I reset the router to the default factory settings before doing so. Then over the web I tryed to upload the 'WL500b-1.9.2.7-7e.trx' file, but I get this message:

Firmware upgrade fail. It may result from incorrect image or error transmission. Please check the version of firmare and try again.

I downloaded the file from here. Extracted the zip file with no error given. There is no problem, communicating with the router over the web or telnet, so I have no idea, where the problem is. I have also tryed to upgrade the new trx over the restoration utility...no success either.
