Hi All,

I'm using my modded original xbox with XBMC to stream media files from the 700ge's internal harddrive. I'm considering upgrading to the 360. Has anyone succesfully got media streaming to the 360?

When using Windows Media Connect to stream from a network drive to the xbox it won't work, because it is not supported by WMC.

As it happens, I have been spending the better part of my sunday trying to stream media from my winxp pc to my xbox360. No luck so far. I have tried both WMC and windows media player v11. The only last alternative I haven't yet tried is the Zune program for windows xp. It, like WMC and WMP, is supposed to have some kind of media server capability.

I can see the 360 from windows media player 11, but I have no luck spotting the pc from the 360. Ironically, I have no problem finding the wl700ge from the 360, when I have the media server on there enabled. I can even get a listing of the root level of the file system, but can't browse further down the tree. I can actually successfully stream mp3's from the root of my music share on the wl700ge to the xbox360. A bit funny that the xbox360 appears more compatible with a linux-based router than with a winxp pc running specialized media server software :)

I must admit my attempts so far have been to share files actually located on the router through a shared network drive. Maybe I should try with local files. Didn't think windows cared wether the files were local or not.

That's a good sign, have you tried videos?
