probably your usbcam is NOT supported, although it could be on the list.. but logitech uses different chips in the same products

Seems like Tugas are everywhere :)

Well, i tried Trust, Genius and Logitech Quickcam messenger.
Not a single one worked!!

I am not going to buy Quickcam pro 4000, it's very expensive and probably doesn't work...

I'm stuck here! I think the problem is configuration and not incompatibility issues but info is scarse.
Asus hasn't reply yet and i'm hoping someone on this forum figure it out...

If you have any luck please post the solution here!

Try running the dmesg using
http://192.168.1.1/Main_AdmStatus_Content.asp and post the output for all cams you've tried. That's the only way to figure out which are supported.

You will have to press the refresh button, and not just <enter> in order to make the command work

What's the purpose of that page on Asus Router?
What commands can we enter?

Sorry for us poorer souls, but we're trying hard. :))

I positively sure that sooner or later we will get those camera running :)

Webcam.vs.Controlers list:

Please check if your webcam controllers fits the one supported by asus firmware.

I just wonder why ASUS don't allow the user to load his/her own camera controllers.

My question: should I give up trying to use that camera with the WL500g or should I maybe buy an USB hub with an own DC adapter, because maybe the WL500g isn't strong enough to power the webcam and therefore fails to use it?

Well, in case that camera does not violate the USB specification (max. current 0.5A), there should not be any problem with the power. I think it's unlikely the external hub will help you - of course you can try it anyway but... Perhaps there will be a newer OV511 driver available in future (current one - 1.61 - seems a bit obsolete to me) so maybe it could be a solution. Otherwise I would get the camera replaced with some working type (see RCH forum).

Without any problem I connected my Philips ToUCam FUN II (830) Webcam on the router. I can access the webcam no problem from the internet, :) however ...

I am a linux/unix n00b, although I find it rather fascinating that I am now able to telnet to my router (with de CR3 firmware). But is doesn't go much further than the ls command.
But know my question. Is it hard to build in different drivers? Let's say I want a driver for my webcam built in (actually I do want that). Can I do that myself or do I have to rely on someone else's goodwill to do it for me?

MEDION MD9388 or LifeTek LT9388 webcam.

Can anyone suggest where to buy one of these? I'm in the UK, but I don't mind buying from overseas if necessary.

In the RCH forum it mentions Aldi, is this the supplier?

BTW, I've had problems posting today, I wanted to submit a report that the Philips ToUcam PCVC720K/40 doesn't work. I think it may be the /40 that is the problem, see: http://www.smcc.demon.nl/webcam/confused.html

OK, I've now bought a Logitech 3000 Pro webcam, and the webcam server now works. I'm a bit disapointed with the size, 320 x 240, can this be increased?

Secondly, there is a date/time display on the webcam - how do you set it?

Hallo Antiloop, Oleg and all the other
Thanks for hanging on programming for the wl-500g community, without your work, the router was almost useless – an ordinary router. Now, after printing, ftp and many other thinks working fine, I have one big wish left
… A functionally webcam asp ! (This actually was the argument for me, to buy the Wl-500g)
To run a webcamserver from the router and without the computer online all the time will bee great. The actually solution in Firmware v.1.7.5.6 CR4 from Oleg hasn’t the possibility for secure access too (my) webcam, I rely don’t like to writ the router-access PW on my homepage …just for show up my dog in the garden.
Place programming a solution for simple and secure access to the webcams.
Best regards

It is set automatically using NTP server (if you did not remove it from the configuration) in case you are connected to Internet.
Otherwise you can set it manually:
date [OPTION]... [MMDDhhmm[[CC]YY][.ss]] [+FORMAT]

Thanks for the info. I don't have a broadband connection (yet), so that explains it.

I've often seen these "manual" commands in these forums, but I have no idea how to use them. Is there an idiot's guide?

In general, there's nothing special for WL-500b/g. As it is a 'light' version of Linux running on it, you can usually find some tips (related to concrete topics) by searching the web...

I would like a link on my homepage (based on isp), - 123.456.789.12:7777, you press the button and watch my kat, dog – what ever. anonymous access will be ok
The solution from oCe -(http://wl500g.info/showpost.php?p=2148&postcount=17) is nice and ok but based on an “homepage-server” turned on all the time.
Secure access – I mean the only thing open is webcam-feed from port 7777.(right now you must open port 80 for access the webcam asp. from wan.)

the proper url for my webcam-code is http://members.home.nl/oce/bunnycam now. in there you can find the active-x .cab file you'll need and the html-file, which is all you need to make your webcam available for anyone, without login. only thing you'll 'publish' (in the code of the html) is your server/wl500g-ip. little explanation of the mose imortart part of code:

VALUE=127.0.0.1:7777:320:240:12>'

This part, above, has to be (for your own webcam):

IP:WEBCAMPORT:HORIZONTALWEBCAMRESOLUTION:VERTICALW EBCAMRESOLUTION:12

don't ask my why 12 has to be at the end, I have no idea; any other number simply trashes the webcam-image. for any questions feel fry to pm/mail me.

i've not yet seen any digicam capable of doing this at the wl500g

allthough it is capable.. but has no driver to do it..

you would have to compile it on your own if you really want this.

I have configured my Logitech 4000 Pro webcam to connect my WL-500g for more than 2 weeks and worked very fine (with firmware 1.7.5.6). However, suddenly it didn't work though I haven't made any change of router settings. I have tried to (1) connect remotely and locally through 3 different PCs, (2) restored to Factory Default by clicking the option in web config as well as (3) pressing the button at the back of the router, but the problem was still found.

Details of the Problem: When I connected to my webcam remotely by pressing the "Preview" in "Image Size" row within the web config, I got the error message "couldn't create socket" within a "ASUS NetCam" message window. After clicked this message window, another error message "can't connect to server" appeared also within a "ASUS NetCam" message window. Then the error message of the IE6 would appear and the browser closed.

But when I connected to my webcam remotely by pressing the "Preview" in "Remote Control Mode" row with "192.168.1.1" defined for Remote Site 1, it worked FINE.

Although I upgraded the firmware to 1.7.5.9, the problem was still existed.

Hummm

From the PWC Driver F.A.Q:

My image is mirrored

This seems to happen with the PCVC730 and the Logitech cam; I have seen it myself, and it has been reported a number of times. Unfortunately I don't have a solution, and even the folks at Philips aren't sure what the problem is...

Of course that doesn't help you a lot, but at least you know you're not alone :-)

There have been a number of requests to make a 'mirror' option for the module. That is certainly possible, but that would require modifications to the PWCX module as well, including a new major number. Eventually, it will happen, no worries :)

Look arround Here (http://www.smcc.demon.nl/webcam/), there was somewhere a Tool on the HP to tweak more special internal settings of the cam, i think also some which get stored permanently. Maybe you write to the Autor and post him that your cam Chipset has the same problems ...
