I own a WL-500g router for some time now, i haven't changed a thing since i had it.
I was googling a bit about it and found this forum and posts about putting a sort of linux and making a web server, etc(etæra).

Could you tell me what is possible to do to add functions to the router?

You write that you haven't changed anything, so I think you use the original ASUS firmware. Probably you have to install the unofficial Oleg's firmware. Other posts in this forum should help you. After doing this, look at http://www.macsat.com/macsat/content/category/3/13/29/, where the installation of custom packages is nicely described.
