Hello!

I am from Austria and I have to use PPTP connection for my ADSL provider Inode. But it isn't able to connect to the Internet. I use original Asus Firmware 1.9.6.9 (newest).

But I configured the Asus WL-500gP correct:
IP Adress: 10.0.0.140
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.0.0.138

User Name: *user*@inode.at
PW: *****

The modem is an Alcatel SpeedTouch Home.

I also have another router (Siemens SE505) and it makes no problems.

The Asus router always says: Lost IP from provider when I go to 192.168.1.1 before logging in and in Status Log I am always disconnected.

I hope anyone from you can help me! Thanks!

I guess your Speedtouch is the ADSL modem. The signal is relayed to the Asus:

ADSL modem (WAN port)-> Asus (LAN port to Asus WAN port)

What setting do you use for the Speedtouch? Gateway (router) or bridge? In case it is in bridge you must use another port setting. It should work if you use the Speedtouch as a router, in the asus you just choose for "cabel/adsl modem with dynamic IP", no need to enter your pptp account again; the Speedtouch already takes care of that....

Yes, the Speedtouch is the modem and it is correctly connected. I use it in normal bridge mode.

The strange thing is, that with Olegs Firmware the pptp connection works without problems but not with the original Firmware.

Strange thing from Asus...

Hi,

I have a similar problem with the Provider Education-Highway (Austria as well). My settings are PPTP, local IP 10.0.0.137 and remote IP 10.0.0.138. The rest of the settings is similar to Fettiborgs settings.

When I start the WL-500gp it uses different IPs (see (1)) and returns an error. The start page before logging in shows "cable is not attached".

Is there anybody who knows what to do?

@Fettiborg: Which Oleg Firmware did you install and where can I download it?

(1) The logfile

Jan 1 01:00:08 pppd[89]: pppd 2.4.2 started by (unknown), uid 0
Jan 1 01:00:08 pppd[89]: Using interface ppp0
Jan 1 01:00:08 pppd[89]: local IP address 10.64.64.64
Jan 1 01:00:08 pppd[89]: remote IP address 10.112.112.112
Jan 1 01:00:10 pppd[89]: Starting link
Jan 1 01:00:10 pppd[89]: Serial connection established.
Jan 1 01:00:10 pppd[89]: Couldn't get channel number: Input/output error

thanks in advance

Hello Loki!

My wl500gp showed exactly the same errors like yours with the Asus Firmware.

I installed Olegs WL500gp-1.9.2.7-7f-pre4.trx Firmware. It is downloadable here: http://oleg.wl500g.info/gp.old/

But I have to warn you because in this Forum some people said their router died after the firmware update. But in my case it was fully functional. Just install it like a normal Firmware Update and wait 10-15 minutes until the router reboots itself and you are on the Admin Screen again.

But it is really an evidence of incapacity that the original firmware doesn't work!

After the update my configurations worked perfectly.

I hope I could help you.

Hi Fettiborg,

I installed the update you told me, and it works :)

Many thanks!
