Hello,

I woul'd like to ask somebody to post a tutorial for installing the custom Oleg firmware, because I woul'd like to install it, but I don't know where to start and how it works.

Can somebody please post some screenshots of the webinterface? Just to make sure that I can work with the firmware.

Kind Regards,

Just use the "tutorial" in your routers manual. Olegs firmware is nothing else than a modified ASUS firmware, and can be handled like one. Webinterface looks the same, tho it has added functions.

Well, without wanting to sound too stupid, but as another new 500g deluxe owner, I also couldn't figure out how to do it. My 500g was running on the 1.8.2.1 Asus FW, so a direct upgrade to olegs FW should be possible, right?
I used your firmware selector wizard, and obtained the WL500g-1.9.2.7-7c.tar.bz file. Upon unpacking this file, I got all the source files, but no TRX file. Trying to compile the file from source resulted in an endless list of error messages, both as root and as standard user (SuSE 10.0).
Another attempt, this time using olegs homepage, netted me the WL500g-1.9.2.7-7c.zip file, which upon unpacking provided me with what seemed to be the desired .trx file.
When I pointed my 500g's web interface at that file, and clicked 'upload', it claimed that firmware upgrade failed. I tried it three times, each time redownloading and extracting the file to avoid possible file corruption. No luck.

I have now downloaded and installed the 1.9.5.0 FW from ASUS, which installed with any trouble, except that some of my settings were lost (no biggy, I was able to restore them all from memory).

So, that seems to make two of us newbies that are having trouble. Maybe a quick explanation of what we're doing wrong would be possible. After all, I am willing to learn, but I need someone to push me in the right direction for a start.

You are not supposed to have to compile your own firmware. Oleg has allready done this for your comfort.

Simply go to the following link: http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=4145 And click on the link in the first post from Oleg.

This will open a download page with the compiled firmware and also the sources.

Download the appropriate firmware (for WL-500g Deluxe this is: http://files.wl500g.info/asus/custom/oleg/1.9.2.7-7c/WL500gx-1.9.2.7-7c.zip)

Unpack the zip and use the webinterface of the WL-500g Deluxe to upload and install the new firmware. Now Bob's you uncle with a bit of luck.

See also the firmware updating topic here: http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=1329

Shouldn't be too difficult I would think. Good luck.

Now that was really weird.
I downloaded the file from your link. Tried several times. I got failed firmware update messages twice, and it worked on the third try. Now running 1.9.2.7-7c. Thanks for your help.

OK, thanks, now I have another question. If the install of the firmware is not completed successfull and some files are not copied so the router won't work anymore, how can I reset it to the firmware from ASUS, so the router works? (Just in case it happens) And if I want to just go back to the official firmware from ASUS, what do I have to do then?

Please, these questions have been asked many times in this forum! Don't expect us to explain it a thousand times again and again.

Have you seen my signature? The first link is very useful.

Sorry Styno, but I can't find a forum where they discuss that. Can you please post the URL?
