Guys, I've made new firmware available at wl500g (http://wl500g.dyndns.org/) page. It's based on 1.7.5.9 ASUS firmware.

Please read carefully everything before downloading (download link is at the bottom of page).

This new firmware features new approach for customizing firmware and storing of user configurable files in the flash. I the mean time I will remove bootCmds completely because it's now absoleted by persistent files feature. bootCmd was used at the early stage of building the custom firmware (they appears in 1.6.5.3-1) and was more like hackish way. :) With new persistent files feature you can completely alter boot scripts of the wl500g and customize it on your own.

As for other changes - this is mostly bug fixes for 1.7.5.6-5, there is no other major updates.

Hi all

Only one question. Is teoreticaly possible to upload fw. 1.7.5.9 CR1 to wl300b/g or wl500b?

Does anybody try this?

(Maybe i will use cca 100 pcs. of ASUS in client mode, and 10$ can make change in absolute costs.)

Oleg

wl500b should work, wl300g WILL NOT work.

I just flashed to this firmware and have the following problem (although I fear that it is not really firmware-related as I have experienced this with the two latest Asus releases as well :( )

I start from scratch after a factory reset with the quick setup. The only things I choose/enter are ADSL/PPPoE and user name/password. After the restart I am connected to the internet. If I do another restart without any changes by clicking on one of the finish buttons in the web interface, I am no longer connected to the internet and do not seem to be able to get there.

I tested this firmware on wl500b. Everything looks working fine, when i don't touch g-settings.

Is there some strange problem using this fw on 300g, or 300b? The size looks be the same, the hardware too.

Hardware is different. If you brave enough and love risky thing, try flashing it. And if it boots ok, switch to AP mode. Probably client mode will work also in HomeGateway & Router config. If it does not boot then use firmware restoration (it's better to try using firmware restoration with known good firmware before upgrade). BUT THERE IS NO WARRANTY.

:) Hello Oleg, just for information :
I sent you my problem with your previous firmware 1.7.5.6-5: the DNS server was running only if the DHCP was on.
With your last release: 1.7.5.9-1 my DHCP is off and the DNS server works fine!
So it was only with the 1.7.5.6-5 that I had this problem.

Webcams do not working in CR1. Both are using PWC 8.8. Working alright in official(?) firmware 1.7.5.9.

Error message "cannot connect to server". Rebooting did not help.

Name of the webcams:
Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000
Afina

Thanks.

Hi Oleg,

maybe itīs possible to make it possible to change the webinterfaces tcp port. at
the moment there is no way. httpd allways starts on port 80. there seems to be no -p switch.

kind regards

patrick

This requires recompiling httpd and there is no sources available for 1.7.5.9.
But you still can alter the ports using iptables, just like this is done for external web access.

busybox_httpd can't be used for web iface. it's completely different program. You don't need to setup second web server (busybox_httpd) on the 80 port. You can start it on osmething like 88 and then, using iptables route all trafic coming to port 80 to port 88. For iptables see www.netfilter.org site.

Hi Oleg,

I'm quite confused by your manual about starting samba and ssh, when i logon to the wl500g with telnet i dont have the directory init in /usr/local.
So i probably don't have the pre-boot file eighter.
I've booted the wl500g several times and still nog init dir.
Olso FTP and samba not working, if i acces my share witch it opens i don't see any files.
It looks like my USBFS is not mounted.
But i don't have an idea how to mount it manually.
Switched back to cr5 and everythings works fine here.

Oleg

You need to create /usr/local/init as well as /usr/local/init/post-boot script manually.
