In short: How do I connect 3 lap-tops wirelessly to a WL500g having placed the MAC-adresses in the Wireless/Access Control List and still having the DHCP-function operating?
Having searched for this in vain for some time on this forum, I place this simple question to see if others out there are thinking the same way as I do, or even have the correct answers.
I've had WL500g for some time, and I've had no problems routing up to three laptops in a wireless home network. I've an ADSL router as a gateway supplied by my ISP. This question concerns only the local wireless LAN behind this gateway.
This network is open and insecure. My vendor has told me it's a good solution to add the MAC-addresses of my lap-tops in the Wireless/Access Control List. Then other MAC addresses will be excluded.
My question then is: How do I do this?
- What settings am I to put to
- AP mode?
- Channel?
- Connect to....?
- Allow anonymous?
- In what format should I place the MAC-adresses?
- This way? 00-13-CE-1C-76-D6
- Or this way? 0013CE1C76D6
- Or some other way? 0x13CE1C76D6 (I'm betting on this one)
- Are there precautions to be taken before doing it? (To avoid locking up the
WL500g. Yes, I know I can connect to it with a cable)
Why do I not make use of WEP -encryption? I use my laptop both at work and at home. At work the default access method is DHCP and no encryption.(Besides, I can log on to the network through a docking station, which changes it into a desk-top machine. Thus I don't want to change it at home.)
Bridging though is meant for making chains of routers, not computers.
Anyone having tried this?
