Hi,

First of all: what an absolutely great support forum, this!

Before flashing my new wl-hdd2.5 with new firmware, I would like to have a way back. The firmware that was installed by default (1.2.3.6) is nowhere to be found on the 'net.

Here (http://wl500g.info/showpost.php?p=5476&postcount=5) Oleg and others explain how to copy the firmware to a file; this I have done, through busybox.

This yields 2 files:
3866624 flash
262144 pmon

Will these files enable me to go back to the current state, for example through a standard firmware update? Or do i simply cat them back to where they came from? This is something that has not become clear to me.

Or am I missing something and is there a far better way to backup my current firmware for later use?

Thank you for your help!

Hello ,

You should find that a firmware restoration utility came bundled with your WL-HDD 2.5.

... the current firmware version is not on the CD (1.2.3.6).

So my quiestion becomes, is it possible to use the files I save in the manner described above, as an 'image' to feed to this firmware restore utility?

Hi,

Does anyone have the answer to my question?

To rephrase: Using telnet and this post (http://wl500g.info/showpost.php?p=5476&postcount=5) I have created two files on the hard disk of my WL-HDD / WL-HMD:
flash, 3866624 bytes
pmon, 262144 bytes

Can I use these files as input for the firmware flash tool? I am asking because the firmware version on my WL-HMD (Firmware 1.2.3.6, DMS (media server?) 1.1) cannot be found on the net and is not on the CD's in the box. I would really like the option of going back.

Thank you! And sorry for kicking the thread up.
