Some websites don't open

Hi!

I have a really odd problem. I have an Huawei MT882 ADSL modem connected to the WAN port a WL-500g. My computer is an Apple iBook G4 with Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther). I use fixed IP between the modem and the router and I use WL-500g's DHCP server to connect to the computer (wether wireless or wired connection).

Apparently everything is fine, but there are some web pages that simply do not load. E.g. www.schubert-it.com (the hole website), www.intel.com (when I try to use the search), www.asus.com (download page). If I connect the modem directly to my Apple iBook it works just fine, but when I connect via WL-500g these pages don't work. The browser keeps trying to access the pages but they never load. After a lot of time the browser says it couldn't load any data from the server.

I already had the last firmware, but as the problem persisted and I couldn't do anything I downloaded it again and installed. A already tried to hard-reset and re-configure booth equipments.

Any suggestions?

i had the same problem last weekend.

My solution was:

- reinstall the newest firmware

And after that everything works perfectly!

I read you already reinstalled the firmware. :-|
(Hmm, try to install a older firmware and after that a actual firmware.)

Sorry, but no luck. Can anyone help me? Still have the same problem. Can it be a problem from the modem instead of the router? (When connected directly to the computer it works fine.)

I'm having the same problem. Can someone please offer some suggestions to investigate?

I'm running a wl500g Premium running latest (1.9.2.7-8). It also has OpenVPN installed and is acting as a server bridging another wl500gP with an almost identical configuration. If I connect a desktop directly to the ISP, I can access all sites just fine. Behind the router though, MOST computers cannot access the same sites (XP Pro SP2 & Vista Biz): microsoft.com, msn.com, npr.org, southwest.com. I connected by laptop (XP started from hibernation) to the network and I CAN open these sites. :confused:

Even from one of the problem computers, I'm able to telnet to one of the web-sites and send HTTP commands AND get replies but browsers (MSIE6, MSIE7, Firefox2) WILL NOT open. :confused:

Someone, please tell me what how I can even begin to troubleshoot this one.

I solved my problem probably 1 and 1/2 years ago... I never posted anything because no one ever answered me anything, so I didn't see no point in doing so. Probably I thought wrong.

Well, I really don't remember all the details of my solution. I changed the firmware for one that, I think, was customized by someone (not an official one, then). The only thing I can tell you about that firmware is that the version number that the router reports is 1.9.5.0. I guess it is a custom version of v.1.9.5.0.

I know that ASUS has new firmware available for my router, but we have a saying here, in Portugal that could translate like this: "Do not touch a wining team".

I'll try to investigate further, in order to give you more details about my solution, if I can, but I can't promise anything, sorry.

If you can think of anything, please let me know. I'm using Oleg's special firmware because I need the extra functionality of Samba and OpenVPN so I cannot use ASUS's firmware, but I'm willing to try other things.

Well, your post remembered me about the firmware I'm using. It is Oleg's firmware.

So it went like this:
1. I was using an old ASUS' firmware — didn't work
2. Upgraded to new ASUS firmware — didn't work
3. Reinstalled the same firmware, then downgraded and upgraded again — didn't work
4. Installed Oleg's 1.9.5.0 — WORKED!

After that, I noticed ASUS released a new firmware, but I didn't upgrade because I feared to have the problem again (as I said before) and now, as you told you have a newer firmware I even fear more to upgrade.
