The 500gE model isn't available in Australia, but I am curious as to what's the actual differences between this and the older 500g model?

Is it because of the new wireless bit to support a larger area of coverage? WPA2 support? Maybe USB 2.0? Is everything else pretty much the same?

If it is, I plan on getting the Mitsubishi R100 (OEM of 500g), as it is cheaper.
(Both the 500g and 550gE models use Linux, and that's my prime requirement) :)

you are mixing up things, are you talking about WL500g or WL500gE or WL550gE ?

anyway WL550gE has Broadrange (802.11n alike stuff) it should boost up to 300% more coverage, further it has 1 10/100 WAN port, 4 10/100 LAN ports, and NO USB ports, and no LPT port

the Broadrange can only be used in combination with a broadrange enabled client: WL100gE (pcmcia), WL138gE (I won't recommend this one, if I look back to experiences from users with the WL138g)

Hi,

I was told by my ASU dealer (very big one, so that why I'm concerned) that the WL500G is end-of-life and only options are WL550G_encore and teh 520/530G

All 3 of them come without printer ports.

Do you know more of this ? Is it possible to hook up a printer (via some hacking) to the WL550E ?

What is other differences does the WL550G_E have vs. teh good old WL550G ? Only the sensitivity and range ?

What firmware does it run ?

Thanks mates,

BigO

I've looked at the thread in this forum and can't seem to find a clean and complete spec.
From what I've read, it seems the unit has 2 USB2 ports and 32MB of RAM.
What about the CPU? Is it much faster than the one in the WL550g?

Also I'm interested in the performance I could expect from it as a file server, with harddisk(s) connected the USB2 ports. I've just seen one article here which seems to indicate that the performace is pretty lousy (like 1MB/s). Was it an oddball case or should I expect it to be that bad?

Also what would happen if I plug one HDD in each USB2 port? Has anybody tried that, maybe even mirroring the two drives?
