okay.. upgrading to 1.7.5.9

waiting for the device to come up again..
stay tuned

okay found some strange things.. it seems asus is busy integrating Samba
and it looks like they are struggling with the NAS thing for WPA encryption (e.g. this does not work when WDS is enabled for some reason)

see web.rar for the files

Ok, let's wait for official version for european market.
If they've decided to implement samba sharing they will need to free up some space in the firmware - 1.7.5.9 now occupies whole flash - so they probably will use uclibc or switch packing from cramfs to squashfs...
The things becomes interesting. :)

Maybe they'll get smart and fork your firmware Oleg :) :D

Yes, this firmware already contains number of things from custom firmwares. :)

well one thing it does is destroying my mixed b and g-network: I used to be able to set b/g and 54g protection and still be able to use my ibook (802.11g) and an older pc laptop (802.11b prism 2.5). Now the pc laptop will only connect if i switch my router to "802.11b"-only. Not so nice.

Actually the only relevant change in the wireless code is the one commented line in general.js, don't know if it cause the problems...

Also, there is a number of changes which affects webcams - seems ASUS guys have fixed number of errors in web access to webcams...

Oleg, Are you planning to do something
with the stuff that Tha Asus guys changed?
Or do you keep it by your own firmware
and go your own way...

I'm just curious...;)'
Greetings :D

Heh...
Actually I've already merged my code with 1.7.5.9, but there are several things which is preventing me to release this:

justwords reports problems with mixed mode - I can't check this, because I did not own any 11g card;
Asus guys switched back pppoe to the binary used in the 1.6.5.3 - this is really annoying, due to the fact that this increases firmware size
there is a port speed setting line in the init scripts which is known to be a bad thing - some routers just hangs
firmware seems to be incomplete - it contains provisions to support Telstra BigPond in the web iface, but does not contain binaries
also, there is some provisions probably for samba as reported by Antiloop
finally, it's totally untested. :)

As for my own way - I've not enough time for this. Mostly I do this on weekends, but I need this time for other tasks also. :)

The problem i had was with 802.11b card when operating in mixed mode. I found out, that even with the old firmware i had to switch the speed to max. 11. With 54, my 802.11b-card would not see the network.
