With the last FW I had some problems with bittorrent which are solved now.


Problems which are solveed now:

- Slowdown of connection-speed
- impossible to surf in the net while downloading and so on...


Same settings used and nothing changed except of the firmware.

there is a bug here.
If i set default gateway to host from LAN, WAN interface uses netmask 0.0.0.0 instead of entered.

vlan1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:1C:XX:XX:XX
inet addr:10.33.0.100 Bcast:255.255.255.255 Mask:0.0.0.0

when a leave dfault gateway blank or put 10.33.0.1 mask sets correctly to 255.255.255.0

default gateway sets correctly anyway - it is good.

I just upgrade this new version firmware
but not really smooth in setup part as before
1. the first is "Quick setup" can't really write the information back to ROM, when I push the finish buttom, it will repair to first page, and run again and again, I can't get out the circle

2. when I want to rename admin to other new name, and change new password, the same thin happened again, it's also show the page want me to keyin new name or new password, OF CURSE...it still as old name and password admin/admin.....do NOT change it...

So...I downgrade to 6b now...

and please forgive my poor english...

That's strange. Just tried crond and it works fine. My simple crontab looks like this:

I dont want to be a spammer, but im just here to say thanks for this new update Oleg.

- About this particular version im having a very good feedback from it. specially from P2P connections, thanks to this firmware now i can download from P2P and navigate with my browser withoud having lag at all.

- The new webpage "services" ( web interface ) it's a very usefull freature.

24h has passed with the firmware and i dont detect any problem at all.

That's strange. Just tried crond and it works fine. My simple crontab looks like this:

My original config:
- root file in /etc/crontabs
- command line: crond -c /etc/crontabs -b

Launched crond -f : error /var/spool/cron/crontabs doesn't exist, so i created the directory and moved my root file (in /etc/crontabs)

Then launched crond -f without error message.

But still the same problem, i see an entry on my syslogd server like this:

2006-01-08 10:00:00 Cron.Notice belkin crond[659]: USER root pid 707 cmd root /usr/local/sbin/run-parts /etc/cron.hourly

But nothing has happened

post your crontabs. Looks like you've to delete user specification (root) from crontab. Check contents carefully.

First of all : great thanks to Oleg for his very good work ! Why doesn't Asus hire you?

Ok here is my experience with the last firmware :
- Quick Setup stays in an endless loop, not very annoying for me.
- I have installed a WL500 on my Girlsfriend's network. This has been updated with the latest Oleg firmware. What happens is that it is very slow in responding when accesed from wan, this goes for webcam, webserver (accessing the routers config), ftp....
Using my router at home i have the same problem. My router is still using 1.9.2.7-6b and using the "80 Wan access bug" the router is responding very fast.
The odd thing is that pings are good....

The same goes for my IIS server running behind the router, it is damn slow....

Am i doing something wrong?

PS : i have set "Number of connection to track" on 16384 on both routers.....
PS2 : Setting it up to its default value did not help....

Using tcpdump I see both PADI and PADO (?) packets (may be missing names, discovery of PPPoE concentrator and reply from it), but pppd doesn't connect.

Debug in /tmp/ppp/options.wan doesn't help.

Hi, please post /tmp/ppp/options.wan0. Perhaps you've something in the service/ac name which is now used by pppoe.

By my experiments with firmware 1.9.2.7-7b and cron I found little problem.

On last line in file /linuxrc is commad:
exec /sbin/init <dev/null >dev/null 2>&1

If I try run /opt/bin/run-parts , system says "/linuxrc: 26: cannot open dev/null: No such file"
correct command probably has been
exec /sbin/init </dev/null >/dev/null 2>&1
But because this file is placed on read-only filesystem, I don't know how improve this.

What command line do we need to execute?

Can you please explain a bit more about the poweroff feature.
Can we "power off" from software?
Is this only for the wl-hdd or for the wl500g too?
How do we turn it back "on" ?

OK here are what is limitating your speed
- The WL500g uses slow USB1.1 (12Mb/s at best)
- Maybe the network connection acts as bottle neck to.

Today was the first time i connected to my companie's network since i upgrade my WL500g to this firmware.
I had a very strange experience, although i'm not sure that it is linked to my VPN connection but i think so because i was able to reproduce the issue.

After connecting to the VPN i started to copy some files from the server to my computer and the connection dropped.
The router status mentionned that it was connected, but in fact the DNS relay was not working anymore. Setting up my ISP's dns on my computer did not help.
Hard restarted the router and everything was find until i connected to my VPN again..... I also reproduced the issue
I downgraded to 1.9.2.7-6b .... And now all is fine.

Here is my config :
WL500g in home gateway mode firewall disabled, connected to an ethernet DSL modem (freebox) which does the PPPoE job....

I have spend many hours but now its works for me.
2x WL500g with FW 1.9.2.7-7b connected with WDS and WPA-PSK TKIP.
What i have found out:
You can configure all settings with the webinterface but don't add the MACs under
Remote Bridge List and Access Control List.
I have add the MACs in the /usr/local/sbin/post-boot script:

I think when the MACs are in nvram the Router turns the wds on but it's not the right time to turn it on.That's why i have put the sleep to the script.:rolleyes:

I can confirm this workaround is perfectly working. Thank you tomekmik!! I've been searching for this topic a long time. It's very important that if you will use the MAC access security the list of allowed WLAN stations will be empty in the web client and only be set by the post-boot as describe by tomekmik above.

Patches for no-ip are welcome, I would not do this myself.

Hi,

What can you do to completely clear a WL500g's memory? I.e. how to:
- flash another firmware release;
- clear the flashfs;
- clear the nvram settings / set nvram settings to those that are correct for this particular firmware release etc.?
- clear any other stuff that needs to be cleared :-)

In other words, how can you be sure to really start from scratch with an updated firmware? I already found some instructions on using firmware restoration, using clear_nvram firmware etc., but I'm not getting a complete picture of it yet. As a result, it seems that some settings from previously installed firmware are kept when upgrading.

Using 1.9.2.7-7b on a wl500g deluxe V: If I try to change the admin password it seems that it will not be saved correctly by pushing the save button.

Result: even if the router is rebooted immediately the password keeps unchanged.

The only way I found to change it in this firmware version is to enter the new password as usual at the change password page, push the "save" button. Change to the Wireless or Lan configuration page, push the "finish" button and use on the confirmation page the "save and reboot" button. After the reboot the the password is changed.

I have installed v1.9.2.7 CR7b. Thanks to Oleg again for his work. Seems to be OK with exception of printing in RAW Modus.

Prints are acccepted without error comment, but they are not processed.

In LPR Modus the printer works fine.

What are the findings of other users with raw printing and new firmware version?

I have a very similar problem. My Wl500gx runs in gateway mode and is connected to an ethernet DSL modem. Recently I upgraded the Oleg firmware from 6b to 7b. I cannot exactly pinpoint the problem, but it seems after starting a p2p client, DNS relay failed. This means that my workstation, connected to the LAN side of the WL500Gx is unable to resolve hostnames.

Doing an nslookup command on the workstation tells me that the DNS server (Wl500gx in this case) can't resolve the hostnames. I can also login to the DSL modem and when I do a similar action there, there is no problem at all.

Yesterday I downgraded the firmware to 6b again, loaded factory defaults and upgraded the firmware to 7b again. Still not working. Then I switched between router and gateway mode a few times and all of a sudden I could surf the internet without problems again on the workstation.
Until it failed again for no apparent reason.... :(

I have a workaround though: From my workstation I can connect to my work through VPN *(using the IP address of the vpn server ofcourse)* and then there's no problem since the default gateway and dns servers at the remote network are being used.

First of all, many thanks to Oleg for his continuing work.

I'd like to report a problem with the new firmware on my WL500g. PPTP VPN stopped from working. I rolled back to 1.9.2.6 and it works again. I didn't clear nvram between flashing. The config is:

ISP WAN: private static 192.168.1.112
ISP Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

PPTP:
Heartbeat: public 195.a.b.c.H
Assigned IP: public 195.a.b.c.I
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.255
Gateway: 195.a.b.c.G

LAN: 192.168.2.0/24.

Routing stopped working. The routing tables before and after the upgrade look absolutely the same:

Hi,
I can't seem to get the USB drives to mount without activating the built in FTP server. Not with this firmware, or previous 1.9.2.7 CR6 firmware.

What I want to do is use VSFTP as an FTP replacement for the built in FTP server: http://www.sprayfly.com/wiki/VSFTP_Guides

The messages in the system log show:
USB device 3 (vend/prod 0x1058/0x400) is not claimed by any active driver.

To me, this sounds that there is no request by any existing process for a USB drive to function and therefore it is not loaded. Is this true?

What should I change to make sure USB drives can always be mounted without setting the built in FTP server to active?

Steps how to reproduce?
1. Log in to the router: http://192.168.1.1/index.asp
2. Click USB Application
3. Select FTP server
4. Select the "No" radio button for the "Enable FTP server" field
5. Finish, and does reboot

PS. I'm doing this on the WL500g Deluxe.

I upgraded from the initial firmware OOB to this firmware. I then want to use the router as an Access Point so I open System Setup - Operation Mode and select Access Point.

I do not have a Finish button to save and reboot the router and when I click Apply the screen flashed but nothing happens. Going to another screen where I can choose finish results in a no longer functioning router meaning that it does not come back up again on 192.168.1.1, the default ip adress.

Anyone else had this experience and if so what do I need to do to get Access Point mode functioning again. Can I change a setting using Telnet to test that?

It says there is no driver loaded that claims support for this device.
Namely, the usb mass storage driver is not loaded.
To save memory they get loaded when ftp (or samba) is enabled.

Load the required kernel modules manual in post-boot.
Should be usb-core usb-storage and a filesystem driver.
Start with disk and ftp on, look with lsmod what´s loaded, disable ftp, load the now missing modules with insmod and see with dmesg if all works fine :).

I need mppe and mppc support for my project. Is that support built into this firmware version?

I saw it was added to the official Asus 1.9.4 firmware, but it seems telnet isn't in there, so I can't do anything with it either.

Edit: Nevermind - I see MPPE support was added a long time ago in Oleg's version.

After two nights of messing with it, I finally got my WL-500g (actually an MN-700) to connect reliably to a Windows 2000 VPN server, WITH mppe/mppc.

I pretty much followed this:

A few changes, of course, since pppd on the wl-500 is configured to have its config files in /tmp/ppp, not /etc/ppp

I had to wipe out the existing /tmp/ppp/ip-up and /tmp/ppp/ip-down links.

instead, my ip-up has only two lines:


route add -net 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0 dev ppp0
ifconfig ppp0 mtu 1400


The other big change was to use the following pppd options in addition to those in the link above.


nomppe-128 (instead of require-mppe-128)
require-mppe-40
mppe-stateless

128 bit might work, but I saw in the troubleshooting guide (http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/howto-diagnosis.phtml) that it sometimes causes problems, so I force it to 40-bit instead. The kicker was forcing a stateless encryption though. Without that I was getting protocol rejects while trying to transfer data of any fairly large size, or at least CCP resets.

I also used the following pppd options to make the connection restore itself in the event it fails:


lcp-echo-interval 10
lcp-echo-failure 3
maxfail 0
persist


Before launching pppd, I modify the iptables a bit:


iptables --table nat --append POSTROUTING --out-interface ppp0 --jump MASQUERADE
iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp --tcp-flags SYN,RST SYN -j TCPMSS --clamp-mss-to-pmtu

I didn't have to do any of the other iptables stuff recommended by the link because all the proper allow(s) are already in there.

finally, since there's no "pon" utility, I launch pppd with the following:


pppd call (my config file name)



I automated the file deletions and copies and such with /usr/local/sbin/post-firewall

Setup like this, any packets destined for 192.168.*.* get NAT'd through the VPN connection. Anything else gets NAT'd through the normal WAN port.

So, uh, yea, just like the link above, except everything is different. :D

I won't know how stable it really is until I use it for a while, but for now I can run remote desktop and outlook through it just fine.

So there is a dir

not realy, it's the closed source wireless Part from Broadcom !!!

Anyway, I'm just giving OpenWRT a try, since the people over there started to build a WEB-Interface !!!

As far as I can see it doesn't look bad, if I can get some own stuff comiled for it, I think I'll ride this road ;-)

But in previous firmware this was automatic loaded on bootup and was detecting my usb stick, but now seems i need to load them manual :(
I "just" had to power cycle the router, reboot will not do. Then my usb stick got detected automatic.

Tried the -7c fw. But got problems with my IP-phone. When answering calls the caller could often not hear me at all - and hung up. Flashed backed to 1.9.5.0, all OK.

Did not change any settings in the process, and also verified that all necessary ports where open to the IP-phone.

I am running wchar enabled 7c for three months now in AP WDS mode without any problems. And would like to see wchar support in the upcoming release. With my custom firmware I am able to compile most defunc c++ optware programs. Enabling is trivial and I don't see any reason why not to enable wchar support. It gives less than 4KB to firmware.

Since I do not have time to upgrade to latest uclibc myself, I am thinking of separate uclibc for system and optware. Built with latest toolchain.

My hopes are also on kernel upgrade to 2.4.32. But anyway Don Oleg firmware has been proven stable and I can say: We do not need another version as the old one is working perfectly.

The only thing to consider when upgrading to wchar is that uClibc is not binary compatible and that whole optware repository must be rebuilded/reinstalled. That's why I am running my own ipkg wvhar enabled site.

What about sources to pre-releases? Only trx?

i had some stability issues with 1.7.5 firmware so i updated to WL500g-1.9.2.7-7c.trx
Done by the rules... ;) first to the default settings and than... flash.
It works immediately. However some remarks:
WEP encryption ok
WPA-PSK: lan cards get connected, but no traffic possible. (*)
printer: my Kyocera FS-1010 is recognized, printing nearly ok as I get an extra page with the text:
E="Microsoft Word - Document 2"

seems a ready message but i knew aleady it was printed... ;)

System:
wl500-g as bridge fixed own ip number.
wireless and/or fixed connection with L3800C laptop, WL-100g card.
*= as soon encryption is activated I loose my connection on the fixed cable wl-500g-laptop If I do the same with WEP both (wireless and UTP) stay connnected and i get traffic.

I've searched the forum/web.
Suggestions welcome.

When I run a ping it gets lots when the WPA-PSK becomes active. The wireless connection seems still present according the signal bar in the Asus tool.

I'm now working on uclibc-0.9.27 support, including wchar_t. These way it would be openwrt whiterussian compatible.
This is not just a plug and play... Still working with toolchain.

Building uclibc 0.9.19+wchar looks terrible to me.

Everything is available via web interface, no manual intervention required. Just switch Wireless | Advanced | Extended mode to Ethernet Bridge. RTFM from ASUS.

it works perfect with WEP when I use it as Access Point. No longer another AP available to do other tests. I did not test it as a router as I use it downstairs for my laptop, but the other ports are used for local pc's downstairs. If I'm not at home and the wl500g may give a problem, at least 1 pc can work with the UTP that takes care of the signal from the main router, simply by moving the UTP connctor from the router to that pc . All pc's have fixed IP (for ftp et al) and if I would put the wl500g as a 2nd router the easy switching would not be possible anymore (2nd gateway) without chang in the pc-settings. I prefer to avoid that for my home users.
With my laptop I can have UTP and air connection (of course of different ip nrs... ). The moment I active WPA-PSK by confirmation in the Asus WLAN tool... all traffic stops, while the HF is r3ceived (signal indicator). When I turn of the wireless card I get back my LAN-UTP connection and after applying WEP both stay connected ("LAN-UTP" and "WLAN-air").

edit: since this morning I loose also connection with WEP ..... Restarting notebook and WL500g and reconfiguring do not help. When I shut down my WLAN connnection I get back my LAN...
Same problem when I go back to the latest .50 firware from Asus. Strange problem...
XP firewall is off and I checked also with Zonealarm off, no difference. I will try a complete re-install of the wireless on the notebook. I prefer not to reinstall my complete notebook...

Sorry I'm too elliptic, what I meant was: if you do not wish to spend the additional time and effort to make and publish this diff, I'll patch my source firmware alone. I hoped that it was easy for you to compute and publish that diff, that's all (fon instance: the linux kernel is published both in ``complete tarbal''l and ``patch with respect to the last version'', so that you can patch incrementally; it's obvisouly an additional hurdle for you and probably not useful for many people except (maybe) oleo and myself). If you keep the last version of the source tree it might be easy to do, so that I'd be happy to have such a diff, otherwise, let's forget my request.

I have WL-500G and AT&T is the isp. It was working with all the previouse 7a,7b,7c. After upgrade to 7d, it won't connect to internet. Back to 7c, everything is O.K. The log seems normal and it show connect, but just won't load the web page.

Hm... According to your syslog, everything is OK, and you've pppoe connection, not dhcp. Also, this log is not for -7d version for sure... Please flash -7d and save correct log.

According to your logs, you're running wl500g deluxe (not the wl500g). Also, according to your logs the box is connected to your ISP and working fine. Could you please clarify your problems?

Also, your connection type is PPPoE, not DHCP!

ISP connection is established though, no access to websides neither mail
flashing back to 7c all is working as it should without changing any settings.

When 54g Protection gets enabled in 7e, no wireless client can connect to the station.
It seems the clients are assigned only IPv6 adresses via DHCP - then again, syslog does not show any DHCP request from them anymore.

Unchecking it again does not solve this - only a reset to factory defaults does.

Hello all,
I am new into this community and I decided to try upgrade firmware in my WL500G Deluxe ...
BUT ... when I upgrade to version: WL500gx-1.9.2.7-7e or any other, I am unable to set up my internet connection, so I had to downgrade back to version: 1.8.2.1 - because it is only ONE, where I am able set my internet connection

In version 1.8.2.1 I do follows after downgrade and complete reset: in Quick guide I choose Home gateway, cable modem connection with auto IP assigment, auto IP and DNS, in hostname and mac adress I fill in same: 0011e3548fb5 - reboot and it works ... in ANY other version doesn`t

In ANY other newer version my WL500Gx doesn`t receive IP adresses from my cable modem.

For setup I am using web interface.

Tried search these forums, but find anything what could help me ...

Thank you for any help or suggestions...

I just did same upgrade again to the Olegs latest drivers ... after upgrade i did complete restart of router (pushed button on the back side), didn`t setup anything and it works now ...
I don`t understand it ...

Does exist any manual to all those new functions in Olegs firmware?

I followed the guide lines of "Ssh and telnet daemons" @ "http://oleg.wl500g.info/", but I still can't get dropbear to start at boot. I have to connect with telnet, and manually run dropbear before I can use ssh. I use Gentoo on my pc, and I am used to the easy Initscripts to load daemons @ bootup. Any suggestions will be gladly taken.Thank You For Your Time

I had firmware 7b running with a USB stick attached to a usb-hub. (with 1 swap and 1 ext3 partition)
After following the macsat manual for setting up a usbstick/website etc I could mount it with the post-boot script posted below:

I found out that if I insert a FAT partitioned usb stick right after flashing it seems to generate all devices (not so with the ext3 and swap partitioned disk. When I reinsert the ext3 and linux swap partitioned disk it is recognised. Now all works fine.

Hallo,
Im trying to configure my PDA (HP55xx) after router frmware update from previous OLEG version to current.
(on previous everything works fine)

PDA is working with .11b WPA-PSK/TKIP, but is unable to connect to router. I see in "Status & Log - Wireless" only MAC adress, no "associated" and no "authorized" msg.

Router is set to auto mode, .11g protection as was on previous firmware version. But when I change to "802.11B only" my PDA is successfully connected.

I tryed resets to factory defaults and set completely from "zero point" but still same - no G and B in one moment.

Could someone help me please?

It seems to me, as if with the latest firmware version (7e) a post-boot file, which has been copied to the flash, will not be executed properly. When I put the 7c-version on my WL-HDD again, the difficulties were gone.
Would be fine, if Oleg fixed that.

I don't know for previous versions, but with 7e with post-boot and post-firewall scripts to open to WAN I can't access ftp until I enable Super user account and then once login with super user. After that I can login with users on user account list from WAN.

And another issue with external USB disk (FAT32). Once per day I have disk disconnection

Its only with games because when I'm browsing or whatever it doesn't stop transferring data packs. He even looses its IP when I try to /ipconfig lease /ipconfig renew (after I played a game). There is only one way to get the IP back, and that is a reboot. And it is only with one computer (both integrated NIC cards), the other ones just work fine. And I didn't got this problem with the previous releases. And in the log files there is says that there is no request.

The NIC is a Marvell Yukon 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller.

Probably same problem here! Marvell Yukon integrated Gigabit Ethernet card stops sending packets. Renew of IP adress didn't help. Complete reboot of PC helped. I tried to set my Marvell Yukon to 100mbit full duplex (instead of Auto Sense) and it seems to be okay now.

EDIT2: Speed setting didn't helped at all, but I realized, that I can only DISABLE and then REENABLE my Marvel Yukon and it's working again... (for a while)

This is not a router problem. Either drivers or hw problem on your PC.

This firmware work perfectly for me, but i have got one problem. Webcam drivers update: ov51x-1.65-1.12, pwc 9.0.2 (incl. compression and 640x480). But my newer Logitech sphere (ptz) can't work with this firmware (i buy this cam 130$).
Log: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x46d/0x8c5) is not claimed by any active driver.
I read: Warning: This driver does not support these newer Logitech webcam:

WAN - as line from ISP (cable)
LAN and WIFI - on the same network, and using the same inner asus DHCP, WIFI in AP mode (connect for notebooks etc.), LAN port for other PCs.

Original firmware work as this (i think):
WAN and WIFI on the same network (?)
LAN with asus inner DHCP for clients, bud i need wifi for clients too, not for ISP, for ISP i have WAN port.

yes, its standard "Home gateway" mode I think (System setup -> Operation mode) - I have set this at my home (PCs connected to LAN ports + my notebook connected via WiFi all of them getting IP from DHCP, internet connected to WAN port)

When the option is activated, the image file is attached in mail but this one is empty (0Kb). So unusable.

To resolve this problem, I want to buy a 500g delux with 2 usb 2.0 port.

Two questions :

- With samba usb speed must be better ?

I have tried to instal the 7e version on my WL500G Deluxe for several times now, but i cannot axcess the router because it is constantly rebooting itself (app. every 10 sec). Resetting doesn't work (button and diconecting power).

I don't know what to do anymore. Please help :confused:

Hi!

Since my connection speed has been raised from 2000 kBit/s to 6000 kBit/s I only get 1000 kBit/s downstream and about 180 kBit/s upstream. The WL500g is flashed with the current firmware v1.9.2.7CR7e. Everything worked fine with the line speed at 2000 kBit/s. Now, if I connect the pc directly to the Xentrix modem, I get full speed (6000/640). Connected to the router, I get the low speed either via WLAN and LAN. Changing the MTU/MRU in the router configuration didn't help. Disabling the Firewall didn't do it either.
Any suggestions?
Problem with the PPoE driver?
Do I have to buy a new router? :confused:

Probably same problem here! Marvell Yukon integrated Gigabit Ethernet card stops sending packets. Renew of IP adress didn't help. Complete reboot of PC helped. I tried to set my Marvell Yukon to 100mbit full duplex (instead of Auto Sense) and it seems to be okay now.

EDIT2: Speed setting didn't helped at all, but I realized, that I can only DISABLE and then REENABLE my Marvel Yukon and it's working again... (for a while)

I had the same problem at work with the Marvell NICs. We are using a netgear router, so this is not specific the WL500. What i did is install drivers from WindowsUpdate and since then all is fine !:)

The config file is in /etc/smb.conf, but after changing it and rebooting the router it's set to the standards coming with the new oleg firmware. Even when saving the flash and committing it.

Also, with Samba I want to change the name that's shown in the network enverimont, from Samba etc. etc. to something like 'Router'.
Normal I would start samba with quote below, and that defines the name of the router.. Can I still change it somewhere now it's integrated?

Just for the sake of it i tried to upgrade my wl500g (not de luxe) from 7e to 7f today.
I have reset the wl500g twice after the firmware upgrade, but NTP doesn't seem to work anymore.
The is no entry in the syslog file about ntp.
i am pointing to nl.pool.ntp.org which used to work fine.

I have not downgraded to 7e yet. I hope you can help to get it going without downgrading.

How can i test NTP? are there any other logs i can look at?

update:
-I flashed firmware 7f again. No improvement. still no sign of NTP
I also did a factory reset several times (5 sec. reset on the back of the unit until power led started rapidly flashing)

-I have downgraded to 7e now. NTP works without problem with the old firmware.

Can i conclude there is a problem in the 7f firmware?

Still my router out of nowhere when it's downloading 8 torrents or so. Resized my swapsize to 256 mb becouse the 60 mb's was too small..

The only other things that are running are the httpd server, stupid-ftpd and dropbear. Does anyone has a clue what it can be? Should I just stop downloading so many torrents? :(

Reinstalled everything. Still wondering what it is as the only thing that could bring it down is enhanced-ctorrent. Mine is a premium btw.

i have been looking around and carnt seem to find any firmwares for the WL-500g that have bandwith management that is IP based for uploading just like it is for downloading :(

is there any way that you could put this in?

i know port based is good BUT here in OZ all the main ISP's suck and only give us small U/L bandwith (i am on cable 10Mb down 128Kb up) and when the others in the house start any form of P2P the net stops i tryed to use the port shapeing but they just change the ports there useing and restart i dont mind them downloading but when it kills the connection because there is no U/L it sucks big time

i have allready set it up so there IP's are set from there MAC address so the IP shapeing would be grate

i know you do all of this work for free Oleg and it fantastic (been useing your firmware since you started doing it for wl500g) i amd i am sure that most of us here thank you grately

But i think, there is one little prob in dhcp:
I'm using my clients with time to lease by 10800 - so the client should check dhcp every 3 h (= 3*60*60 =3*3600).
But the client check it every 1h30min (=5400 =10800/2 = 1.5*3600)
... or I'm wrong ???

If there's one linux / M$ server in front of AP mode of wl-500g, you could set static IP for wl-500g by dhcp service. and then surely set "No" in [Get IP Automaticaly get ] of [IP Config].:o

Is there still a way in version 7f to block URL's, or is this not possible anymore?

I want to use this firmware, have some issues with my present one, but need to block out certain URL's.

You can look at the wiki pages here on this site, or you can make your own firmware. What you also can do is make een list from bad websites and use the build in option from the internet explorer or use a software firewall with childprotect build in.

Same go's here on my parent's WL500.. At my home it works ok... On both unit's update succeeds, the only difference is that on my parents one when you try to connect from wan side using the dyndns name the connection fails, however when connecting using the IP it works.

I have a similar problem, with some minor tweaks:
My current connection speed is of 8000Kbits and when connected directly trough the modem I get full speed. Trough the router, wich has been flashed with the current firmware v1.9.2.7CR7e, I get around 2000Kbits at LAN and 4000Kbits at WLAN :confused:
I also disabled everything I could in the router (firewall, NAT, USB apps) and it didn't help also.
My ISP connection doesn't use PPoE, its has Automatic IP distribution.
I also reflashed my router with the latest firmware and factory settings, but unlike hvonjomega, that didn't help either. :(

Any ideas???? I really like this router, and it would be a shame to buy another one because of some configuration problem :P

Unless you did a 'reset factory settings', login/password shoudlnt have changed. Maybe an incorrect flash, i do not doubt you've done the right things, but i've found this router is very sensitive while flashing. I experienced two incorrect flashing resulting in unstable behaviour.
I suggest you to do a reset factory settings (push back button until it reboots once or more times - for me, i need sometimes to let it reboot 3-4 times to get back factory settings), then reflash it.
Generally, it's a good idea to reset to factory settings before AND after a flash procedure.


Another thing : i've noticed some limitations in allowed characters in the field "IP Config > Wan & Lan > PPPoE, PPTP or l2TP Account > User Name", '@' character is forbidden. Well, my isp username contains a '@' so... :D. Not a big deal, because with a copy/paste from notepad it works, or during quick setup there is no character filtering. Don't know if it can be changed, i just wanted to let you know this (Oleg and others).
By the way, thanks to you, Oleg, and to all contributors to this project ;)

Ps: I'm using v1.9.2.7-7f

Thanks for the link, however 1.64 lock up on the LAN and WAN for me.

1.62 is the one that works really well, I like it better because it will not give me the IP stack overflow message and slow down after I run bitcomet and emule for a day.:p :p :p

I'm having some trouble with the 7x-branch of the firmware.

I used the 6b-firmware for a long time without any problems. After upgrading to 1.9.2.7-7f, the (external) DHCP (getting an IP from my provider) is very, very slow. It takes over 2 minutes to get an address. The last part of the log looks like this:

[... internal clients getting their IP-addresses here, without DNS-info ...]

The problem kept re-occurring, even after several resets to default and so on.
After downgrading to 1.9.2.7-6b, the DHCP was fast again.

1.9.2.7-7c gave me the very same problem. What happend to the DHCP between 6b and 7c and how to solve this?

Also, is it normal that DHCP reports 1 'normal' DNS (the first one I typed in), and 2nd DNS as '192.168.0.1' although I manually set 2 DNS in the configuration?

When I use the latest firmware I cannot get internet access with PPPoE. If I log on to the web interface I get the error message "cable unplugged". However with Firmware v1.9.2.7-6b it works fine. Any solutions to get PPPoE working with the latest firmware? Thanks.

Hi,

My wlan is very unstable. I'm using a dothan-based notebook with an inter integrated wireless card to connect to my wl500g. But after a couple of days, the connection to wlan is refused. I've even started restarting the nas process to simulate a restart, but even that doesn't work.

The greatest mystery is that the the network itself is announced, I can see its SSID on my notebook, but if I try to connect, I get completely useless error messages (like unable to connect). There is nothing in the logs on the router, either.

Any ideas?

Everything was working perfectly, but suddenly toady morning router lost default route and nothing helped me to fix this. ASUS' fw was uploaded and working god.

Here is an example (my.ppp.oe.gw - it's just a bougs name for my ext IP):

I run 7f and experience problems transferring files larger than the physical memory of my 500g (12 MB). I attached a1 GB usb stick, 2 partitions, 1 formatted ext3 800MB, rest = swapspace for running a website.

cat /proc/meminfo shows 120 MB swap available

When I try to download python 2.5 (14 MB) the system hangs after 8.5 MB, scp from local machine to router hangs at 8.7 MB, scp on router getting from local system hangs at 8.5 mb
ftp hangs at 8.3 MB. I finally attached the usb stick on my local machine, transferred the downloaded package. Returned the stick to the router and was able to install with ipkg. However I think I will be in trouble with the next ipkg python update as the package probably will be bigger than 14 MB.

Anyone experiences the same problem??

my WL-HDD doesn't synchronize time via NTP with 1.9.2.7-7g. This bug was already present in 1.9.2.7-7f and it's still present in 1.9.2.7-7g. :(

EDIT: OK, it seems to be a DNS problem. If I set the IP from the NTP server I'm using directly into the NTP Server mask, synchronizing with NTP works. But I really don't know what's different with DNS since 1.9.2.7-7f. I'm using the same settings.

you have to add your dns server to /etc/resolv.conf if NOT using DHCP.
i do this in post-boot:

echo "nameserver IP.OF.DNS.SERVER" > /etc/resolv.conf
This seems to be in f and g firmware.

Apr 29 09:03:34 syslog: Warn: MRT_DEL_MFC; Errno(2): No such file or directory

Can anybody tell me, what does it mean? IMHO the previous (7f) firmware didn't log such warnings.

EDIT: Now i found out, these warnings were caused by multicast routing. I deactivated the multicast routing and the warnings were gone. But I would like to undersatnd the real reason of these warnings..

Hi Oleg,

I tried to compile your 1.9.2.7-7g sources and I experienced the problem to compile LZMA library. The zlib.h file was missing.

I did an workaround and copied another one from ppp directories and made a patch to it by adding "compress2" method header into copied zlib.h.

The same library was missing in squashfs tree so I copied that newone from LZMA_lib folder into squashfs folder.

Offcourse, in both cases I had to replace following lines in files:
#include <zlib.h>
by
#incliude "zlib.h"

Finally it compiled.

Can you please fix it? Maybe I did something wrong and it should compile at first time.

Hi again,

yet another question: since I installed v1.9.2.7-7g on my WL-500gP, my System Log is full with following entries:

I have noticed the same behaviour. When I enable multicast routing than there are these messages in the log.
Have you found the reason why?

Yes, I found the reason. It's multicast routing. Disable it, if you don't need it!

I had to enable multicats routing because I need to connect to other linux machine which is located in different network. I will try to make static route rule and disable multicast route.

Huh i still have problems with ppp0 interface on *g* version [wan is not flashing]. Tho its working like its should on f one. So i don't have a clue whats going on :/

tmp/local/ seems to be empty. Take a look if this is right.

tmp/local/local/root/ should not exist. maybe you have copied some things the wrong way... There should be a tmp/local/root....

You have a problem with the files themselves, but not with "flashfs save"
Is this a clean install of oleg firmware???

when i:
use the command as following:

ipkg install apache

there some problems appear as follow:

collected errors:
package apache md5sum mismatch,either the ipkg or the package index are corrupt.try 'ipkg update'

what is it's problem?can you tell me how to do it?
