Wrong address with modem cable

Hi,

I have recently bought a WL500G DELUXE to share my web access.
UPC/Chello is my provider (in France). As he does not allow IP sharing, i have to clone in the router the MAC adress of the Ethernet card of the 1st PC that was previously directly connected to the modem cable (THOMSON TCM410).
But the problem is the following one :

on the WAN side, the IP adress of the modem cable is not seen correctly by the router (it is the same for the gateway IP adress).
For example i have written these figures (the last are anonymised) :

WAN Interface

WAN type : Automatic IP
IP Address : 10.49.179.xxx (instead of 87.231.10.yyy)
Subnet mask : 255.255.254.0
Gateway : 10.49.178.xxx (instead of 87.231.10.yyy)
DNS Servers : 213.245.0.115 (corresponds to DHCP server adress got from ipconfig /all) --> i wonder if the problem is not right here!

So, either it is a problem of MAC adress cloning, or a problem of DHCP failure or bad range of adresses or translation problem? I don't know. I am lost (in translation) and i am waiting for a very good idea to solve my problem.
For the moment, i get connected by choosing a static IP (as Chello, my provider does'nt change very often IP adress attribution). But when it occurs, i am obliged to unplug router from modem, etc.. to get new IP adress, and so on. It is boring and besides, my young boy 12 old can't do that by himself.

I didn't understand even a half, but you say
So, either it is a problem of MAC adress cloning, so, old firmwares had troubles with cloning, use new one.

The router "see" private adress instead of public adress.
The private adress is given by the provider in order to do maintenance or security process. Normally, the customer never see this adress. It is a static adress. So, how to force the router to see and take into account the public adress (it dynamic adress)?

Strange....
It's seems like you're ISP is using PPPoE and the adresse you're router is getting seems to be the underlying IP of the PPPoE layer.....

I have a cable internet connection, not ADSL. So I don't think PPPoE were used, but as i am not a specialist...

THis thing also happens at my router - but this is only then the ISP is updating my cable-modem or shutting down the i-net due to updating or maintaince... Then the router will get an ip corresponding to a non-routable ip like 192.168.1.100 - but sets it checks with the ISP every 1 min to get the "routable" ip back again then available - and this also does work...

BTW - FW version 1.9.2.7 :)

When you get an 10.xxx.xxx adress from UPC (Chello) it 's because you 've got a new MAC adress attached to the modem.
The modem registers this (new MAC) and gives you an 10.x.x.x adress.
Also note: you get only one DNS server, DHCP lease time is restricted to one hour.

The name (DNS) server redirects every internetpage to Chello login & register new Computer (= new MAC adress.)


In other words; the MAC adress cloning didnt work ;)

Presumbaly someone has used MAC cloning on the WL-500, and can shout: it works!!
