Hello !

For now i have been able to solve a lot of questions just by reading this forum, but this time i have to ask...

I am running a Wl-500g with Oleg's 1.9.2.7-6b firmware and everythings runs smooth except that when the ISP drops the connection (every 24 hrs) the router does not reconnect automatically and i can't get to reconnect it manually either (Reconnect button on status page) but have to reboot it either via the "reboot" command or a power cycle. I had the same issue with another DSL modem on another phone line and another ISP which does no daily disconnects but occasionally (= every few days) had connection hangups.

The logs look like this:

....

Any ideas would be very welcome !

(Should i set an automatic disconnect ? The connection is idle for quite a long time at night, of course.)

Cheers

I've found a workaround:

By setting up the idle disconnect option (Tx only, 30 min, DNS set up manually) i get a WAN connection every time it's needed. There shouldn't be any more disconnects from the ISP since the connection gets dropped at least once a day before the 24hrs have elapsed. The router nicely drops the connection and brings it up again (accessing an NTP server from the router does this as well !).

I just wonder what would happen if (for any reason) the connection would hang or get unplugged from the server side ?

Anyone knows if the timeout can be set to - say - 23,75 hrs so that if 24hr connectivity is needed the offline time is minimal ?

Cheers

Hi,

I have nearly the same problem with a Comtrend 361 modem attached to the wan port of the WL-500 with Oleg 1.9.2.7-6b firmware. When my ISP drop the connection the router can't reconnect. If I switch the modem off and on without doing anything to the router, the router reconnect automatically :

Seems you have exactly the same problem. For now i haven't found another solution than the one mentioned above (the idle disconnect option). At least this has worked flawlessly for several weeks now...

I support your suggestion to make a selection on the WL500g menu to automatic reboot if WAN is disconnected or not present over a spesified period time.

I'm running 1.9.2.7-6b. When heavy download on bittorrent, the Asus wan port dies, and connection to internet is ofcource lost.
I would like to have an option on the Asus to reboot if a ping to i.e. your ISP's gateway does not reply.

If this possible? I've been looking for software to install on my computer to do this job. I have found software, but none who can log on to Asus and reboot it (either on web og telnet).

Anyone have a solution?

Could this be a temporary workaround for the WAN die problem?

Hi,

this is imho an big problem. If the connection get lost and the router can't get reconnected after 5 or 10 min, the inet-connection get lost. The router doesn't try it any more. Also there is no chance to get connected if you try WAN-port unplug / plug.
I've tried with parameters alwas on (Null Sec.).
and 87000 sec. because with 0 sec there was this time out.

I think this is an BIG bug. So, OLEG can you help?
Is it possible to modify the retries manually and/or change the firmware to try to reconnect every 10 min if connection is lost ?

1000-thanks :)

Add "maxfail 0" (without a quotes) to the Additional pppd options field.
