Hey Guys,
I have just picked up a new Asus Wl-500g router and love what this forum is doing. However, I had some ideas and thoughts I wanted a second opinion on.

Limitations:
I am coming across a lot of limitations and constraints with the wl-500g in a lot of the forums in regards to processor/ram. The unit is capable of anything; however it is not a P4.

Ideas:
With these limitations in mind, it is evident that we can't turn our Wl-500g into a replacement for dedicated servers/services; I have an idea:

1. Opposed to running must of these services on the router itself (I.E. webpage/proxy/mail server/etc ...) I was wondering if it would be better to use the WL-500g as a transparent proxy to other servers. Load balancing and fail over could be implemented.

uses:

Transparent caching HTTP proxy w/failover
-running a proxy on a linux/windoze machine on the LAN
-content filtering etc on the proxy not the router

Mail server load balancing/fail over
-so you can run multiple mail servers at home under one ip address

All I can think of right now, I would love to hear everyone's comments.

Summary:
Outsource CPU/RAM intensive functions to a computer transparently by the router.
