Speed up HD access connected to WL500g

Hi all

Here is my configuration
WL500g with the last 1.9.2.7 6c release of the Oleg's firmware.
250 Gb LaCie hard drive connected through USB with a single ext3fs part.
FTP is active and Samba demo mode is active.

Today, i need a very long time to move a file from each of my windows computers to my hard drive connected to the Asus (from 35 to 40 minutes for a 700 Mbits file ... who said a movie ???? ;) ). I've the same transfert rate on both FTP and Samba.

Do you thing I can speed up the transfert rate if I use NFS (this is possible with windows)

Do you know how I can speed up this transfert rate in another way, I browsed this forum on that subject and my transfert rate seems to be only 25% of the standard one ...

Have you got a Wl500g Deluxe, if not part of your problem is USB on wl500g.
Wl500g has USB 1.1 not 2.0 bus speed on 1.1 is 12 Mbit/s in 2.0 is 480Mbit/s.

You're right 1.1 have an effect but doesn't explain everything...
The need is 10 mn to transfert a 700 Mbts file using USB 1.1 ... In my case it is not so far of 40 mn....

I was wondering if NFS can speed up the process ?

somewhere on the forum i read about the same problame. and experts correct me if i'm wrong.

but in that topic the where talking about a speed limitation becaus the cpu in your wl500... is the limitation for the speed on the usb bus.

I can read/write at about 700Kbytes/s using a usb pen drive.

Are you using a WL500g or a WL500g deluxe ?
What is your config (specific setup , format of the USB key ....)
