Bekijk de volledige versie : [WEBCAM] Genius VideoCAM Express not working?
Hello,
I've tried to use Genius VideoCAM Express with 1.7.5.6. CR 2.1 and it looks like it's not working. According to Asus manual this WebCAM uses OV511+ chipset. Does this chipset supported in 1.7.5.6 CR2.1? Is there any chance to make Genius WebCam working?
TIA,
regards, RoofCat

it's possible there are some issues with your cam:
Genius VideoCam Express 100 OV511+ OV6620
Working. Warning: Some of these use a proprietary chipset that is not supported by Linux (0458:7004)
reference url: http://alpha.dyndns.org/ov511/cameras.html
other possibility is that the current ov511(+ ???) driver is not current or uptodate. try with official firmware 1.7.5.6 too please
The official firmware are also build with 1.61 version of the driver. I can easily update it up to 1.65, but not to 2.x versions (this requires more changes in the compilation).

Oleg, please be so kind and do it... ;) I think 1.65 should be still better than 1.61.
Technik, you problem is not with ov511 driver version, but the general usb problem with initialization...

I know but why not to have a latest possible Webcam driver? ;) Perhaps it could help to get some other webcams working better as well...

I've tried to use Genius VideoCAM Express
I'm only a newbie, but are you sure it's a Genius VideoCAM Express, and not a Genius VideoCAM Express V2 (look on the white patch on the end of the box).
The V2 version has been reported as not working, and I had the same problem.
Nigel

First of all: Oleg thanx for your new firmware update, CR3. It installed perfectly!
But... my webcam still isn't working, although it's mentioned at this site http://alpha.dyndns.org/ov511/cameras.html. I own the Creative Videoblaster WebCam Go Plus (what's in a name). I read somewhere else that it works with version 2.2x. Is it very hard to compile that new version? I would do it myself if I had the knowledge (is it hard?)...
Off course I would be willing to test it...
Hello,
First of all: Oleg, thank you for all your efforts on developing firmware!
And back to the story of Genius Videocam - After some studies it turns out, that Genius VideoCAM Express webcam which I used is version 2, and is based on proprietary chipset as Antiloop mentioned earlier.
However, I've found Linux driver for this chipset (spca561) in the Web (http://mxhaard.free.fr/download.html). According to this page, the driver is free, rather new, and supports wide range of USB cameras - including rather cheap ones.
Is there any chance to include this driver in future releases of CR firmware? If testing will help, I am ready to be a tester.
Regards,
RoofCat

Dear Oleg,
Is the root cause due to the "OS"?? As I am using the latest firmware (1.8.X.X) with MaxCam MPCC-1 which claim have been tested and confirmed to work with the router.... but in return....
As I do not have a linux box, could you help us to solve this problem? Thx. :p

the custom firmware uses a newer driver than the one asus is releasing
try custom fw 1.7.5.9-5 that one contains one of the latest drivers

A bad news.... I've tried it already (custome 1.7.5.9-5) still not working, it prompt the same message (Cannot connect server).... Help....
After upload the firmware, I press the reset button then use all new settings but still fail.

have you read the manual carefully and setted up your browser correctly to be able to use the webcam thing?

Seems already follow the manual strictly, all active x items in IE already switched "ON". Any idea, thx in advance. :)

should be good..
eh try finding some posts about webcam and dmesg
also execute this command at your router:
ps aux
post result here
probably the webcam daemon isn't even running
(going to sleep now.. don't expect reaction anymore today :))

In fact 1.8 use the latest ov511 driver, which also supports ov519 cams, so this should not be problem. The problem as seems is due to different chipset.

Anyone have same experience and then bought a new usb cam can successfully use the "WEB CAM" function at the moment?
Please advise the brand and model of the web cam, if cheap I can buy one to try. :)
The existing problem cam I am using is Maxell MaxCam MPCC-1 (Black in color with a green light on the top of it.)

Hi,
