Bekijk de volledige versie : external HD under Linux with ext2
Hi all,
can somebody tell me if it is possible to connect a external USM hard disk (with Linux ext2 filesystem) to a wl500g?
Cheers
Hermann
ext3 only is supported by custom firmware.

USM? What's that?
But a standard USB disk with ext2 works fine.
thanks for the answer.
and sorry, I meant USB, not USM...
so Ext2 works with the standard firmware? do you have a link for me in this regards? is this written somewhere in the manuals?
I just want to be 100% sure before I buy the device...
Thanks again. :)

Probably it's supported. I've never used ASUS firmware. :D
The point was is that ext3 is supported in my firmware for sure.
one last question regarding this:
when I have ext2/3 on the HD connected to the WL500g, do I have to have a Linux system connecting over a Wlan stick to the WL500g?
Or is it also possible with a Windows system with, lets say EXT2IFS http://www.fs-driver.org/index.html with which I can read EXT2 on Windows?
cheers
Hummm, seems that official firmwares don't support ext2/ext3: http://www.asus.nl/products/communication/wireless/pdf/WL-500gb%20USB%20FTP%20Server%20Compatibility%20Test% 20Result.pdf

cheersI used such a driver once. Worked flawlessly in my case (read and write), only automatic drive detection didn't function all the time (needed frequent rebooting).
thatīs a pity thatīs not supported.
The problem for me is that I have a satelite reveiver with a HD and it supports only ext2. So even if Ext3 works it doesn`t help me... :(
Oleg: Is there any chance that Ext2 will be implemented in your firmware?
You should read again ;)
In official firmwares ext2/ext3 isn't supported.
In Oleg's firmware ext3 is supported.
Edit: removed false information....
I read Olegs statement that Ext3 is supported. He didn`t mention ext2, so I was under the impression that it isn`t working.
But when say it does work, thatīs sounds good to me :)
Cheers
ext2 is not supported in my firmwares.
ext2 is not supported in my firmwares. Hmm, I seem to remember using ext2 once, but I guess I'm wrong :o
Anyway, Oleg, I wouldn't dare to disagree, hehe
