Hi,

I have Wl-500gx connected to D-link ADSL modem 302T.

When I connect modem directly to my computer, it works perfectly. Pings to one of major Polish web sites are approx. 27 ms.

When I connect modem through 500gx in AP mode, it works too, same pings.

When I connect modem through WAN port of 500gx which is in Home Gateway mode and ping the web site, around 12-15 pings reach the site, then transfer freezes for 1-3 seconds (lots of lost pings) and then again 12-15 pings are fine, it freezes, etc, etc.

Note that modem has a DHCP server built in, and 500gx receives its ip address and dns server list from the modem. On internet side, 500gx has IP address given by my ADSL provider.

Please tell me if anybody had similar problem and, if so, what was the cause and what is the solution. Without your help I will have to return the router what I wouldn't like as I like the router and linux software you can run on it.

BTW: problem persists both on Oleg's newest custom firmware as well as on original 1.8.2.1.

Are you using any P2P program at the same time when you were pinging?

I have no actual experience with 302T, but it should support RFC1483 and bridge operation. So if your modem is unbranded or your ISP allows user configuration of the 302T, you should use the web configuration manager and set it for bridge operation (should be on the connection page of the setup tab). After that you should turn off the DHCP server (DHCP configuration button on the setup tab). And just to be on the safe side, set the IP address to 192.168.1.2, so that you can configure the modem connecting it on a LAN port of the 500g. That should be it. I configured my Zyxel 650R in a similar fashion and it does work.
Of course you will have to configure the WAN section of the 500g...

The manual for the 302T can be found here http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/temp/download/300/DSL302T_Manual_2_00.pdf

Thanks Z/os. Indeed, when I set the modem to bridge operation and disabled the DHCP on the modem, the connection works without any problems.

Now, I don't have to return my Wl500gx back and I can happily carry on tweaking it more and more :-)

BTW, the manual for 302T does not mention anything about bridge mode operation and connecting the modem to a router. No does Wl500gx manual. Those ommissions costed me one lost Sunday and a lot of nerves.
