Is there a performance advantage associated with one format or the other? I have the hard drive FAT32 formatted because (I think) I need it that way for a Windows 98 PC on my network to read the files (?)
Your advice is most welcomed.

Use ext3. You do not need to use fat32, for others to be able to read files.
