Hi Guys!

Can anybody configured successfully Sony PSP (v2.00) WPA-PSK (TKIP) with WL-500g (v1.9.2.7)? Please tell me how? :)
Wireless mode: 802.11B Only
Authentication method WPA-PSK
WPA Encryption: TKIP
WPA Pre-Shared Key: xxxxx :)))
WEP Encryption: none
MAC Access Mode: Disable

Sympthome on PSP: step 1: Connecting to access point
step 2: Exchanging key information
step 3: goto step 1

Many thx!

are you sure it's the right key? ;)

Derfel

If Sony PSP's input field "WPA Key" same as the WL-500g's WPA Pre-Shared Key, then yes, i'm sure! :)

Another problem: I configured PSP to WEP authentication method. The connection has established with the router, but not obtained IP address from DHCP server.
The PSP is display the following message: "Obtaining IP address...", and wait, and wait, and wait... At finally: "A connection error has occurred. The attempt to obtain the IP address timed out."

Have you used HEX WEP key?

Yes, i used hexadecimal (26 charaters long) WEP key.

Yes, and the MAC access mode is disabled.

Yes, I can
I think your problem is that
setting of "Authentication Methods" is wrong,
you must set it "Open System or Shared Key"

Grrr! What device's firmware is wrong? I tried older WL-500g firmwares, but neither doesn't work with PSP with any secured connection settings, only with open system mode. :(

I had the similar problem getting USRobotics 9106 AP to play with wl500gx
It seems getting different vendors wireless products to talk to each other can be a big problem.

Hi Guys,

I had the same problem, but managed to get the psp connected if I set my wl-500g to 802.11b mode. (wireless -> interface -> wireless mode)

after I changed that the psp connected without a problem. I tried lots of different settings, set the 500g to use no encryption at all and so on, but the only way I got the psp connected was when the 500g was set to 802.11b mode only.

thanks,
Notti

1. anyone using this setup? im planning to get a wl-hdd and im just wondering if the wl-hdd can stream mp3s to PSP? the PSPis capable of playing internet radio from shoutcast servers. is there a shoutcast server for wl-hdd?

2. another thing is, based on what i have read so far, wl-hdd can become mp3 player by plugging a USB-soundcard or usb-frm-transmitter in the usb port and can be controlled by a pc in the network. if it can be controlled thru a web browser, is it possible to use the PSP as a remote control thru the web browser built-in to the psp firmware 2.x?

i dont own a wl-hdd yet but planning to get one soon cause i have a toshiba 2.5 hdisk 80gb which im planning to fill-up mp3s and some files for sharing in my home network. thanks in advance.

You'd probably have better luck getting advice if you gave info on what you have tried and what error messages you get.

I myself have my PSP working with the wl500gx.

So now I know that is IS possible....I almost gave up....

Can you please tell me what firmware version you use?
Also I would like to know what type of encryption you use.. wep/wpa and that type of settings.
If I have these basic answers I can try to copy the result.

Please help :D

WPA-TKIP Firmware 2.6

That is a good start!

I did not use WPA so far, because there is one laptop in the network which does not support this. (Old wireless card)
But if this works I will exchange the wireless card of the laptop.

What firmware did you use on the router???

LK

The problem is that it is not my own network but from some-one else....so I've been trying for 2 hours without any luck.
And I'm not exactly a newby to wireless coms :-)

I even tried an unprotected network but this didn't even work.
SSID is vissible all the time and I even tried different channels.

Most of the time I got "not able to make a connection" or "unable to retrieve a ip adres.
All error messages were in Dutch ofcourse :D

But now I know that it is possible I will give it a try again.

Thanx for the advice!!

?? which PSP firmware you all got

I have no problems connecting my PSP with the 500g
But I have to say that I have 1.50 on my PSP, so I can't use WPA. I have to use WEP for encryption, and it works fine.

mac filtering is on, wep128 is on
no problems :)

At this moment the PSP has firmware 2.5.
But I will update it to 2.6.

This week I will give it another try!

(And ofcourse post the results here)

But is there a difference between 2.5 and 2.6 related to WPA?
I will just update to have the lastest (and hopefully greatest :-) )

3dfx
29-01-2006, 10:51
AFAIK the 2.5 just supports WPA(TKIP), don't know if 2.6 supports AES encryption, I'm not sure about that....

I switched from WPA to WEP just because my PSP 1.5 doesn't support WPA, and with the less traffic that I have, there's no way to crack the passphrase ^^

I have the official 1.9.5.0 on it with WEP enabled.

perhaps you set up your PSP wrong, or missed something
I have entered everything manually (SSID, IP, Gateway, DNS servers)

try that (if your already didn't)

This WL500G is running 1.9.4.0.

So my first steps will be to update the router and the psp.

I had 1.9.4.0 for a few days too, worked well fine like now
I just updated because I had more problems with my ADSL2 line with 1.9.4.0

?? did you try it with WEP, or just tried WPA

If you try WEP you have to enter the calculated "WEP Key 1 (10 or 26 hex digits)" not the Passphrase you entered :P

so far I tried only WEP. Also I tried the 10 digit and 26 digit variant.
I even tried on an open network.
But then the DHCP did somehow not give a IP adres.

I also tried with a fixed IP....also "not able to make a connection"

The feedback that the PSP gives is also really limited so you do not know WHAT goes wrong....

Keep you guys posted on the progress.....

I had the same problem, it didn't work with WEP and open neither.

But I forgott why it didn't work :p

I have a PSP wit PSPRadio and am streaming my personal audio files over from the wl-hdd. I searched in vain for a icecast.shoutcast server for wl-hdd, but then just ended using httpd to stream mp3 files over wl-hdd wifi and it seems to work just fine. Install the httpd ipk, put your mp3 files into the httpd www directory, start the service, and then edit your PSPRadio playlist file (stoed int he papradio playlist folder) to point to your wl-hdd ip and port and mp3 file. It will sream the mp3 to your PSPRadio nicely without the shoutcast server. I think eventually a dedicated shoutcast server would be better as it transmits a true stream with metadata info.

hey! thats good news to me! have some questions.
where can i get httpd ipk? are you using oleg's firmware? if not, is it possible to install and run the httpd ipk in oleg cause im running oleg right now. or do you mean any httpd server such as thttpd?

thanks for the good news!

btw, can you send me or just post here the sample format of the pspradio playlist file using your kind of setup. thanks again.

i tried just now but the sound is like as if they were singing like chipmunks, and lots of noiseclicks. could it be my playlist file is incorrect. i created 2 sample files:

1)
[playlist]
File1=http://192.168.11.220:81/jukebox/Trashcan%20Sinatras/Ive%20Seen%20Everything/06%20-%20Killing%20The%20Cabinet.mp3
Title1=Killing the cabinet
Length1=-1

2)
http://192.168.11.220:81/jukebox/Trashcan%20Sinatras/Ive%20Seen%20Everything/01%20-%20Easy%20Read.mp3

both of these playlists worked but, as ive said, its not listenable. could you please share me your playlist file or just a sample format. thanks.

Your playlist looks ok. It can work without the %20 (spaces) As for high-pitch, my guess is that your source audio sample rate might be at 48khz rather than 44khz. See if that is true or resample and do a test. Do your audio files work withing PSP radio when placed in the PSP music/ folder and played back with PSPRadio file mode? Also make sur eyou ahve the latest PSPRadio, at least 37 final, I am using 38.03

A portion of my playlist.

[playlist]
File1=http://192.168.0.101:8080/stream/tenaciousd-d/21 - City Hall.mp3
Title1=Tenacious D - City Hall
Length1=542
File2=http://192.168.0.101:8080/stream/tenaciousd-d/01 - Kielbasa.mp3
Title2=Tenacious D - Kielbasa
Length2=180

i downgraded to 1.5 and it works fine now. so its probably the ebootloader + pspradio combo is not good for mp3 streaming via http. i was using 0.37 version in 2.0 . i encounter the same problem in 1.5 if i load pspradio in file assistant. so it could be a memory problem. loading pspradio directly from the psp game menu works fine though. thank you so much for the info.

btw, i can also create playlist on the fly! because i have zina mp3 server installed in wl-hdd too. although i have to run other homebrew programs to do that such as portalvnc (for web access via pc), url2psp (auto-download pls/m3u to psp), file assistant (to move pls/m3u to pspradio playlist folder). a pc is still needed for this though.

i think fw 2.0 is the ideal setup because it has a browser built-in. then using file assistant (it also works in 2.0 using ebootloader) to move the playlist file. only problem is pspradio doesnt work properly for this setup, based on my experience. maybe 0.38 could work on this. will try that out when i decided to go back to 2.0 again. i'll be using 1.5 for the meantime.

thanks again for this info. my wl-hdd project (mp3 streaming) is successful!

Finally succes!!!

Now running 2.6 on the PSP and 1.9.5.0 on the WL500G.

First tried WPA-PSK with AES and this worked with the internet browser in the PSP.

BUT THEN.... we tried to run "fifa2006" the connection failed and only WEP could be selected....

I do not understand why 1 game overrules the basic settings. ??!!??

But then we set the router to WEP and everything works fine!

Thanx for the advice!

Try running Peldet on PSP (telnet client) and install the lynx ipkg browser on wl-hdd. Run peldet, login to wl-hdd and launch the lynx browser. You can easily navigate the web-page to make playlist configurations, then use wget command to download, then use file assistant to move the file around on the PSP. I havent tried this yet, but it should work. This way you don't need a pc running or a psp 2.0 browser.

hey purify! thanks again for the wonderful idea. will try that. although i just recently upgraded to openwrt and theres no lynx package available (even the nico packages). maybe i should create the package myself. anyways, thanks again.

btw, i tried pspradio again in 2.0 firmware. it works fine now. i can browse mp3s thru web browser. use file assistant to move the file and thats it. but im on 1.5 now so cant do that.

OK... you got MP3s Streaming... how about this.....

PiMPStreamer - PMP Stream for PSP
http://www.geocities.com/dickydick1969/

PMP is a Video codec for PSP.

Info is on the website. Or is this impossible ? (Because it needed software installed on the Server ie the WL-HDD)
There are only 5 files that are needed. There is no Install it just run an exe.. But you will need an OS.. anyway of trying to incorporate into the firmware ?

Cheers

have tried pimpstreamer a few days ago. one of the best homebrew apps. havent tried mp3s though. the server runs only in windows so its not possible in wl-hdd unless the author (or someone else) ports it to linux or its variants.
