I connect my wireless NIC (laptop) to the Asus WL500G (firmware 1.9.2.7.6b) and get a LAN ip adderss: 192.168.1.10. I am logged in as administrator.
Then I logout, log in as guest, connect again to te Asus router and get an ip address: 169.254.xxx.xxx. This address is not given out by the Asus since it is not in the range 192.168.1.1:255.255.0.0 and I don't see it in the list of "Status & Log - DHCP Leases" in the web config.
But I'm sure I'm still connected to the Asus (and not to some other unprotected wireless network nearby).

Does anyone know what this means?

this is a range of IP addresses automatically provided by Windows when the DHCP server is unreachable and your NIC is configured to use DHCP.
