I've recently purchased a Asus WL-500G Deluxe, but I'm having some problems to get both the wireless and the cabled connections to work. I've followed the user manual carefully. I entered Quick Setup and applied the setting who should fit my setup:
--------------------------------------------------
Select Internet Connection Type: Cable Modem or other connection type that gets IP automatically.
--------------------------------------------------
Fill Information Required by ISP:
Host Name:
MAC Address:
Heart-Beat Server:
(Your ISP may require the following information to identify your account. If not, just press Next to ignore it.)
I choose to leave these fields blank as I never have needed to use this information to get other routers to work.
--------------------------------------------------
WAN IP Setting
Fill TCP/IP setting for WL500g.Deluxe to connect to Internet through WAN port.
Get IP automatically? Yes
IP Address:
Subnet Mask:
Default Gateway:
Get DNS Server automatically? Yes
DNS Server 1:
DNS Server 2:
--------------------------------------------------
Configure Wireless Interface
SSID: Asus
Security Level: Low(None) I didn't apply any WEP- or WPA-encryption because I didn't want to dig any more pitfalls than necessary. I'm going to when the setup hopefully works.
--------------------------------------------------
After completing Quick Setup I tried to connect to the Internet after restarting both the router and all the PCs involved, but with no luck.
When I choose Local Area Connection in Network Connection and then press "Repair this connection the following message appear:
The following steps of the repair operation failed:
Renewing the IP address.
Purging and reloading the remote cache name table of NetBT.
Sending Name Release packets to WINS and then starting Refresh.
OS: WinXP
ISP: NGT (NextGenTel)
Modem: Netopia 3351
Router: Asus WL-500G Deluxe
PCI-adapter: D-Link DWL G520 (only used in the computer who tried to connect over the WLAN.)
