Hi Guys,
An idea came across my mind that could make the 500g do something really nice...
What the idea is - to have emule/bittorent run from a USB disc connected to the wl500g... This allows one to have a computer closed and emule running
during the night for example...
What this would go like is:
When the computer is shutdown - not in arp table.
emule would start running from the usb disk - it would resume downloads
from where emule last stopped..
When the computer starts again emule would sync with it... (emule would actualy still have to run via the usb disc so that if the computer shuts down it will know where to resume from....)
To make this be actually usefull one would need a usb disc of say 1gb++
and the wl500g would need to be able to control the usb disc so that it knows
when it's out of space or something...
What i thought on this is - that when for example the usb disc is over some threshold then wake on lan will be used to wake the pc and downsync all the files from the usb disc - though another option would be for it to just stop in case the usb disc is full...
My concerns on this are CPU power though... emule requires quite a lot of proccessing going around including hashing and rehashing and stuff... I have a hard time believing that the wl500g will be able to handle emule as a program... (of course ofloading interfaces and such and just leaving a simple CLI config tool would make it more realistic)
Ideas? Has anyone done anything like this? I've read of GIFT but couldn't really understand what it does at the end of the day...
If this has not been yet done - what would it require?
