Cannot access FTP from WAN

Can anyone provide a solution?

I bought this new WL 500DX just yesterday after getting rid of my old WL-500g, in which the FTP used to work fine over WAN. (Firmware 1.7.5.7)

But with this new Asus WL-500DX, it is no longer possible to access the built-in FTP server over WAN.

The Asus WL-500 Deluxe FTP Server functions normally over my internal LAN.

I use a Speedtouch 516 ADSL modem to connect to the Internet, and the necessary Port 21 has been forwarded to the Router's IP address.

The new Asus 500 deluxe has arrived with firmware version 1.8.2.1.

After running a port scan over the internet, it appears that there is some "stealth firewall" inside this Asus Router preventing me to access the FTP server from WAN.

All other functions work well with the Asus router.

Please help!!

Hi there

Many people have the same problems as you describe here. Me myself uses 500g but with FW 1.9.5.4 and now changed to Oleg FW 1.9.2.7 7b both FW included the trouble described. I guess in Olegs FW i can by some Linux commands change this, but I am an idiot and dont know how. Prehaps I will trie to load the FW you used and downgrad... Second, This topic has been mentioned several times but as far as I know has no one pointed out a good solution or description of the problem. I have searced a lot in the forum but have found no answer, hopefully I am using the wrong search words...

The same problem for me. I can acces the router from LAN side but from WAN no way. I've tryed with both firmware OLEG (1.9.2.7-7b) and ASUS without any success.

Enable virtual server. Allow ping. All this is in WWW interface!

My FTP was accessible of LAN with port 21 but inaccessible of WAN :
I ve changed the number of port of FTP and i ask to my friend to connect to my FTP..and the test is OK ... :) BUT :cool: when he's connect with routeur (netgear, freebox) on my FTP

i think the router give the bad adress IP like IP private (192.168.1.1) --bad NAT !

the firewall of router was disable, the nat is correct and when my friend connect to my FTP with the modem, it's OK....
i have make some test with g6fTPserver.com and it's OK !!
excuse me for my english but i think it's very strange !!!
