Newbi can't Access FTP from Internet

I've been having problem to access the USB Drive via FTP, I've enable the ftp function on my WL500GX and a user "test" with all read and write finctions.
But using this setup i can only access the FTP within the LAN using WS_FTP Pro 9.01, but how would i setup if i want to access the files while i'm not home??
Can it be done if i want to keep using the beta firmware or do i have to upgrade to Oleg firmware??

WL500GX with USB Drive plug in
Firmware ver: ASUS 1.9.4.0beta

I've very new to networking and using router, so sorry for a dump question

its not possible to reach your wan adres from the inside
have a friend try it out for you

I'm not sure how other can access my ftp from outside in the first place

ehh just like you would from the inside
just substitute the lan adres with the wan adres
but it only works from the outside

When u say WAN address, i assume u mean the IP address get from the ISP on the DSL modem, but my ip is dynamic so i won't know it when i'm not home how can i get around that??

look in your router for dynamic dns and setup an account
