Bekijk de volledige versie : USB harddisk
I installed vsftp and samba on the wl500gx and mounted a USB harddisk. They seem to work fine. However when copying big files (e.g. movies) to the router, copying stops at a certain time and the hardisk led keeps burning. Furthermore I have to reboot before the router can use the harddisk again. Small files copy OK.
Does someone recognize this problem? Is this an incompatibility with a certain USB disk or do I have to set some settings to resolve this problem...
Thanks for the tips..
You say you are copying files to the harddrive....how are you doing this?
Using ftp ? Samba ?
Which ftp server? The build-in one ?
I suggest you consider using vsftpd ftp server, since it is WAY better than the build-in one....
There is a step4step tutorial at http://www.macsat.com
Mascat, he allready say's he installed vsftp.
This behaviour has been reported a few times before. I myself have this problem as well when copying large files using a Windows share (SAMBA).
Symptoms are:
Before actual copying the router is quite busy on the harddisk. Then the file is being transferred. After some time the transfer halts, but the USB HDD remains very busy. After a while the transfer is cut off and sometimes (actually quite often) the USB HDD is unreachable after that. This is because both SAMBA processes have been killed.
This probably has something to do with excessive memory usage?
Ups...
I didnt see that ;-)....must be a bit tired...
I have seen a few bugs here and there as well...
This commands kills mine every time :
cd /
find -name "something"
Also :
cd /
du
can do the trick.
It seems like the WL-500g(x) has some problems handeling hard load on the USB ports ?
Anyone ? Oleg ?
hi,

I think that's the well known 'bug' that files >2GB become invisible and your PC lost the focus...a newer Samba version should fix that imo. Try to copy via NFS-Client..that is ok even with files >2GB

Owkee, however the problem alreay exisit with divx movies which are +- 700mb... So, and for the NFS sollution are there any (free) windows clients, which one do you use?

try Microsoft SFU
Microsoft SFU (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/sfu/default.mspx)

You could test this idea that its probably caused by excessive memory usage.
I dont know if its possible to disable the cache and use straight write operations to disk. (Caching on WL500G) Since all disks these days have a fair ammount of caching on the disk you shouldnt get any severe problems with speed when copying blocks to your disk. This is only an idea !!!!!
Greetz :D
