Hi I have two teenage kids, who spend too much time on internet games ect. So I need to set some sort of limits. I have had numerous discussions with them - but we are unable to restrict their internet games for more than a week or so.
Therefore, I was thinking that I need to get a router where I can restrict their gaming on a daily basis.
I could imagine that 2-3 hours of gaming per day would be OK - so is it possible to let the router cut the connection from kid 1 when he reaches 3 hour, and then cut for kid 2 when he reaches his 3 hours of gaming?

Can this be done with the Asus WL500 - or is there another router that can do this?

Thanks
Steen

Difficult question. How would the router differentiate between kid 1 and 2? If they are playing from the same computer it wouldn't be possible for the router to see which kid is playing.

You might want to search on Google for some parental control software te be installed on the pc itself. Give any kid its own username and it wouldn't be difficult for software to logoff (or cut the internet) after a certain amount of time.

There are general time restricting options on the WL-500g. You can download it's usersmanual from the Asus website, it's explained in this manual.

Thanks for the reply.

Actually they have their own computer and they are connected through LAN-cables, so if I could restrict their usage by using their IP-adress it would be nice. Is that possible?

Well, I can imagine it to be possible to detect when a certain PC joins the network (aquires an IP address for example), then start a timer and to drop every packet after the time-out until the next day. But this certainly isn't standard stuff for -any- router. So you'll have to write your own scrips to do that I'm affraid...
