I don't understand why I keep losing my connection.
Distance AP to pc is 5 mtr with one wall in between. Power set to 84.
Tried first to go back from WPA to WEP....no difference.
PC shows full signal strength. But can't associate...
I know for sure I set WEP passphrase ok because sometimes it connects for a short time.

How to debug this ???

Seems the smc connection manager connects fine....
But I want to use WPA and therefore I need wireless zero config from XP and not this SMC tool. Thinking of buying a MSI PC54G2 Wireless IEEE802.11g PCI Card Adapter. Maybe the problem is in the crappy SMC 2602 card ?

Need Input ;)

Hi, You write that the power is set to 84mW! That may be your problem. You may get interference when you set the amplifier to hi! Try boosting your stereo to max! ;)

When you sit as close as you do, try to set the power to 1mW ;) or atleast 19 or below (beleve that was default).

It is not due to power settings. I have computer connected to the router by wire and the same happens to me.

It migth be the powersetting. Why you are loosing connection can be some other reason. Check your cabels. Or try to set your router and NIC to 10mb hl and see how that works out. Just to eliminate posibilities.

honestly, i didnt understand what that log telling us...

but, from my experiences,
the problems just 'might' be the wireless clients.

also for many other with losing wan connection and clients cant assosiated, etc....

see my experience here:
http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=2515

this is how i make sure if this is the problem?

1. pull out all clients from the network.

2. plug in the clients one at a time and watch carefully.
do a ping to the internet and examine the result.
there will be one or more pc that when you connect it to the network,
your internet drop instantly. maybe not (yet) disconnected.
but it will slower than a turtle...
ping might be 2000 - 3000

3. put up firewall for each and every pc that connected to wl500g
and make sure no other 'unwanted' connection coming from viruses/worms/etc...

4. hope it's virus/worms that cause the problem, and everything should be ok now.

I had a wireless adapter from SMC 2602 and it didn't work nice.
Now I have the MSI pc54g2 and no disconnections anymore :)
