Hi,
I think it's impossible to upload alternative firmware with brand new Asus WL-500gP v2. More info here (https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=124349#p124349).

Does anyone know how can I upload alternative firmware? Without voiding the warranty.

yes you can upload alternative firmware, without really voiding the warranty.
as long as you try to flash the original firmware back when you need to send it away for RMA there isn't a problem.
And even if, usually asus doesn't make that much of a fuss about it, unless you did crazy overclocking and things like that :)

have you tried olegs?

download the "WL500gpv2-1.9.2.7-d-r2381.trx" one :)

you still can upload the firmware using tftp. I have at hand Oleg's original description of the process (in Russian): http://wl500g.info/showpost.php?p=33445&postcount=16
You can either use a sort of google translate or search for an equivalent description in English.

Thank you guys. I've finally managed to upload OpenWrt with X-Wrt GUI through tftp :)
