Bekijk de volledige versie : understanding firmware

I am a little confused about all the firmware options for the WL-HDD. It seems that there are many different versions that give the device a variety of different features. I have a few different questions about what the WL-HDD can do with what firmware.

I see that the latest stock Asus firmware is 1.2.3.4. Am I to understand that with that firmware I can use an external USB hard drive through the USB port on the WL-HDD? If that firmware can't is there one that can? (if so, can it run without the internal 2.5 drive? - external USB drives are cheaper per MB than 2.5" drives)

Is there one firmware that makes all the other firmwares obsolete?

If I use a "custom" firmware do I lose the web configuration utility? I don't get too excited about using a special program to modify text files to configure it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the link, Antiloop. That was helpful. Does anyone know the limitations of USB hard drives on the WL-HDD - i.e. the drive must be formatted by the WL-HDD and/or certian filesystem?
