Hi all,

It's my first time using WL-500W. The problem is that the IP address that the router is getting from the modem is not the right one, so internet is not working. When I use internet directly from the modem or use my Lynksys router, I works perfectly.

I did a firmware update with the latest version.

I don't have a clue about what is really happening... This toy should be plug and play!

Any ideas?

Regards,
Edgard.

Hi...

So, Iīve tried many configurations. My Linksys router works perfectly with this configuration:

Login Type: DHCP
Internet IP Address: 186.205.33.122
Subnet Mask: 255.255.224.0
Default Gateway: 186.205.32.1
DNS 1: 201.17.0.114
DNS 2: 201.17.0.115

The ASUS WL-500W is getting the IP automatically, but this one:
Wan Interface
186.205.57.134
255.255.224.0
186.205.32.1
DNS: 201.17.0.114 201.17.0.115

Heīs getting a different IP. Funny is that Windows 7 tells me itīs connected and the internet is working, but I canīt access anything from the web.

Thanks,
Edgard

As I expected...

the local ip ranges: 10.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x, 127.0.0.x
normally the router uses the 192.168.x.x range

now because the router is getting confused by that, it's unable to route your network.

easy fix tho;)
when you go in the web-config to IP Config -> WAN & LAN
Look under "LAN IP Setting" to "IP Address".
if you change this value and apply you will be asked if you want to change the dhcp (of your asus router) to the new range as well, click yes.
you can change this value to 186.205.58.1 (probably works the best)

try it out, it should work:)

No... Just tried that...

The IP still the one that works on LinkSys. And Asus WL-500W still getting the wrong IP. Tried configuring it manually, but still nothing...

It is known problem with this router. The problem is DNS. Try manually enter DNS in router. You can use openDNS instead the one supplied by your ISP.
