Serial port for WL-500g

We're looking to add a serial port to the wl500g to make boot analysis and development easier.

Has anyone done this already? We need to find the proper pins to attach the UART and transceiver chips to on the WL-500g main board.

I'm thinking about replacing my old linux router with a wl-500g. Reasons are noise, electricity costs, warmth etc.

I have an rather old HP-Laserjet connected to the linux router, to print through the network. The problem is, that it doesn't start itself on demand. So i added an relais to two pins of the serial port. When a samba connection is established the linux router just makes a +5V on the pin and the printer wakes up for at least 5 min.

How can I do this with the Wl-500g. Or should i stick to a PC for that problem. Could i do a hardware modification, without a extra chip and so on? Just don't want to modificate to much.

If you're familar with hardware and with linux then yes, you could perform hw modification and use unused GPIO lines inside the wl-500g. This will void your warranty for sure.

Well, I'm neither very linux experienced nor a hardware freak.

Perhaps I should stick to my linux router. It has more possibilities to test new software and tricks. Like asterisk, imap, and more
