Hi Guys,
Router makes me crazy. It dies about 3 times a week and needs re-plug power cable to start again.
It dies randomly, sometimes at night, sometimes in morning.

When he dies, LEDs are blinking in normal way, but is impossible to connect to router from LAN (cable, wifi) even FROM WAN, no ping response.

Router is running on oleg FW, stupid-ftpd, Busy_Box httpd, ipkg samba, Transmission... running

Its f***** unreliable to work with router.

Please help me :D

Was the asus stable before?

disconnect all usb devices for a week and check
if it is stable then.

Try another powersupply if possible.

Full ACK! Looks like a power supply problem.

Power supply looks fine - 5,3V.

When not connected USB drive, router works fine.
When connected external HDD (tried two disks, both ext3 formated) router starts die again, more often when very high network load (transmission, ftp connection.

Last time he dies, 200GB of downloaded data gets lost!!!

Router is mainly configured by Wengi´s tutorial.

Still looks like a power(supply) problem.
The asus can at most supply power to one 2.5" harddisk
if you are lucky.

Do both harddisks have their own powersupply?

Have wl500gpv2 + latest oleg firmware + 1 Tb disk hDD seagate with own powersupply. once per week it dies... even without any traffic or hdd overload... So i conclude it is better just to have distinct computer set as unix server with all needed things installed than use router as unix serv.. So will back to official firmware and will use it only for network features, also because samba share hdd speed is not enough to feel ok. 2-3mb per second is not enough for me.

Yes, of course, each disk has it´s own power supply (3,5'' HDD mostly has their own power supply).
Connected is only one HDD and one flashdisk.

A few suggestions:

-another power supply for your asus
-do you have a swap file configured?
-do you still have the problem if you e.g ONLY run transmission and disable all other programs?
-try other usb drivers from oleg.

1) ok, I will try when next time router dies
2) yes, swap is ok, RAM extended to 32MB
3) yes, it happened even before transmission installed
4) other USB drivers? what do you mean?

Thanks for tips avberk ;)

-Could be the USB cable to one of the harddisk is either
too long, bad quality, not shielded etc.

Try a short shielded cable if possible.

-Maybe you should open you asus to see if it has bad capacitor(s).

No, USB cables I have changed manytimes (ow there are Short and shielded with something like this (http://www.ges.cz/fec-90-ges05503258.html))

Router is still in guarantee, but I cannot live without it :-)

Could be a problem in internet firewall?

Don't think it is your firewall. Firewalls either block or don't block traffic.

Can you run the router without the flashdisk attached?
So, just with one normal harddisk and see if this makes a difference?
