Beta's a great way to avoid the GPL, eh?

Their other releases stunk with problems--why weren't they considered beta?

WOW I now have a perfect connection to the router it was from unstable 5-54mbit/s and windows told me that the connection was poor all the time to 54mbit/s and the connection is now excellent.

Too bad that my printer still doesn't work with the LPR Drivers on LPT mode :(. So I need to choose, oleg's custom firmware or this one. I think I'll keep this one.

Well, in fact once it's publically available for download they should release sources as well. So, this is a violation of GPL.

can't you ask for it? because this firmware is really better than the other the only problem is that I can't use my printer with original asus firmware. Or it is possible to install the raw mode manual? If so can you please make a short how-to of it? Thanks in advance

But isn't it easier for them to say it's not publically available if it's not available for linked download from their site or if it's called beta? I always figured it was probably in violation. I emailed them about it already and they didn't care (no response). I have a few unrelated Tech Support inquiries that have gone on for weeks though they should have been answered in 3 days. Yeah... they've never responded. I knew about the poor support when I bought the router but figured this custom firmware line would help (it did a lot :)). I never figured they'd be so stealthy with their releases and sources. If they have less time than we do to work on this stuff, they should definitely be giving out the source.

Starting with 1.9.2.6 ASUS added RAW printer support, so it should work. Use port 9100 regardless of printer type.

Stil the same problem with DynDNS. I have selected WWW.DYNDNS.ORG (custom). Also I have set up a static domain at dyndns.org. But the log still says "invalid hostname". Same problem as in latest custom firmware.
Or am I the one who does something incorrect.

tomilius
29-04-2005, 21:42
I just use Dynamic DNS... I'm not sure if the others work or not. You can't use Dynamic DNS, right? I'd probably create a free Dynamic DNS subdomain and see if that works... That works for me. Isn't there some way you can redirect your custom/static domain to the free one anyway, worst case?

Ascathôn
30-04-2005, 14:05
If I choose for dynamic, I have to check the dyndns.org website at least every month. Or else the hostname and my account get deactivated. My IP is dynamic, but it is possible to have the same IP for a whole year. It (most of the times) only changes when my ISP is working on their systems.

It would be nice if dyndns let's me forward the hostname to the hostname given to me by my ISP. Because that's the only thing which is static. But as far as I know dyndns doesn't let me.

Dynamic-DNS in free www.dyndns.org are working well, only are more slow to update ip, some 10 seconds more, that others firmware..

with this firmware the router startup more fast that others firmware..

edit2: Printer with Raw work how to setup (http://wl500g.dyndns.org/printing/)

That still doesn't work for me. Your custom firmware didn't had any problems with the printer (it's connected through the LPT port).

I tried RAW mode on port 9100 and 9101, both didn't work. Same settings like I use in your custom firmware.

Hi all

I am thank ful to your site for releasing thease firmwares for asus.
:D

I am not that power ful in linux and all thats things you do with thease firmwares and sources codes.

I am trying each of your firmwares you releases. But the only works batter is 1.9.3.5 . It is the only release which runs my router for many days without disconnecting or rebooting. the releases before have the Wan port die problem. but i think that txpower block is not working properly, 19 or 84 mw changes nothing. I have a pc is at approx 2.5 meteres with one wall , and another at approx 4 -5 meters behind 3 walls.

the latests have auto self reboot problem. every 10-15 minutes the router reboots automatically (PC looses wireless and last reboot time reset at same time). I dont know which event does this cause each reboot delets all the logs :(. I have an 10 mbps full duplex ethernet dsl modem of local isp (not branded) which goes upto 7000-8000kbps on a DSL line (unlocked dsl speed rate). May this information helps you for the next firmware....

If you recognise this problem why it happens?

sorry for my bizarre french english

Thank you

what are you trying to say or ask?

if you talk about that you can't change the user login name for websetup this has NEVER been possible in a firmware from asus

I Use this firmware since yesterday.
I still have no problems :-)
1.9.2.7-5a gave me 'lost connection with isp' problem.
Hope this is all over now.
Btw. When u use this fw it is possible to flash back to an older version.
I've tested it yesterday.

yes it is possible to flashback an older firmware, allthough I strongly suggest you to reset settings to defaults as they can and probably will cause problems

My 500g has not the auto reboot problem.
Last week the router crashed once, after a reset it works again.
Running 5 days stable without disconnects, reboots now

Hey guys!

After updating the firmware to 1.9.4.0 I had the same problems like chris4335 and twisterchen. I think the problem is caused by the dsl-modem. I have a very old Teledat 300 LAN (T-Online). After downgrading the firmware back to 1.9.2.7 it worked again.

Greets,

Hey guys, why can't i downgrade anymore?

If i flash a older firmware than 1.9.4.0, the device always resets, while booting an don't comes up anymore. Although with the openwrt flashfiles, i get this error.
What's the reason and what can i do against that?

I already flashed the nvram-reset flash, but this didn't work for me. :-(

thank you

Have you tried pressing the reset button for like 10 seconds while powering on?

daemonb
23-07-2005, 19:10
If i do that, the router is going into the failover Mode (right expression?), so the power LED is blinking all the time.

Or didn't I hold the resetbutton long enough?

thank you

Hi.

I just tried this beta firmware, and it helped on P2P connections.

But I found another problem. At least once a day, specially after long use of P2P connections, it decides to stop for about 5 to 10mins. Most of the times it resumes after that, but sometimes it doesn't. It does not disconnect, I am able to reach router and see Status showing it is connected, WAN led still on and blinking with activity. Just doesn't serve requests, any protocol.

I have a friend that has a WL-500g and has upgraded to same firmware. We both did full resets before and after flashing and introduced manually all settings. We both experience same problem.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

P.S.: I'm going to try and set the WAN port negotiation to 10Mbps full duplex, and see if it makes any diference. Will update with info later.
