I've gotten my WL-500g (non-deluxe) today. Installed and configured it and both my wireless laptop and my wired workstations have internet and get an IP from the router's dhcp server. I've set up some virtual servers on serveral ports for my webserver, RDP, FTP and so forth and they all seem to work fine.

But now the problem. After i was all finished and stuff i wanted to go on irc with my main pc... i have an alias that connects me to all 4 servers i goto in one command and when connecting, my connection dies... when it re-connects, irc continues connecting to the server and after it's totaly connected, there arn't any other problems... until i want to start my laptop's irc client too... same story, connecting to irc, internet down, internet back up again and it finishes connecting (but now my main pc has to reconnect too). also, when a server disconnects (one of those software disconnects or something), it's the same story...

FTP works fine, Bit Torrent works fine... Pop3/smtp works fine... just irc...

Anyone know what's going on?

I'm running the official asus 1.9.2.7 firmware.

P.S.

It might be worth mentioning my modem's the old alcatel speedtouch home (hacked to advanced) i got from my ISP 4 years ago.

My webbased setup is turned off and it always has been.

Some other usefull information in the firewall screen are:
Enable Firewall? Yes
Logged packets type: None
Enable Web Access from WAN? No
Port of Web Access from WAN: None
Respond LPR Request from WAN? No
Respond Ping Request from WAN? No
Number of connections to track: 4096

i also tried the "telnet my.router" to death, but it didn't die (becalse the web setup isn't on)

your firewall is setup the same like mine is, try again with another adsl modem if possible?
or restore configuration defaults once again for your wl500g and start configuring again (do not import old settings)

Okay, going to try that as soon as i get home.

Also, would it help if i flash my router with the v1.9.2.7 CR4 firmware by Oleg? Since i'm using the one from asus now. Or wouldn't it change a thing?

Well, i resetted my router and inputted all the settings again. I've got all my internet, nat, wifi and firewall settings back in place and working...

But my 4 server at ones script is now gone... when connecting to irc 1 server at a time, everything stays normal so i guess i flood the router with connection to the server or something with all the connecting...

If anyone has an idea whats flooding and rebooting my router.

---

Okay, looks like me connecting to efnet (efnet.xs4all.nl) is the thing that kills my connection... must be the portscan they do...

---

Yeah, I'm sure. The open proxy scan some efnet servers do kills my router.

I've tried http://chat.efnet.info and it works. so the problem is at this end.

Anyone know how i can fix this?

hm..

I don't have problems with connecting to efnet.xs4all.nl
normally i'm using irc.efnet.nl

Okay, now another problem showed up that falls in the same catogory. When playing Empire Earth 2 (great game :P) online, my router also resets itself at some point... Kinda like when connecting to some irc servers...

The irc problem i've found a way around. connecting to a server that doesn't portscan. I can't do the same with Empire earth, thats why i'm bumping this thread.

does ANYONE have a clue on what's going on and how i can fix this?

Still have the same firmware, the firewall's on with the setting in this thread.
