So, you have your wireless prompt saying 270 MBps - then it cant get faster?
Yes, that is just the link speed.
Your real throughput depende on quality of the channel and if you are running channel bonding.
Most people probably selects "auto" in the Wirelss channel selection - bummer - not a good choice.
Some people select a channel between 1-9, select 20or40MHz, Wireless N only.
Bummmer - you are not there yet
To get full advantage of MIMO you want to use channel bonding.
Since WL-500W only operates on the 2.4 GHz band (bummer), the only channel that will work for a pure channel bonding (totally separated) is 1,6 and 11.
If you succesfully run bonding you will use two of these channels.
If you select auto it might end up on 1,6 or 9, but mine seems to allways pick 8 for some reason.
Anyway - here is how you want to set it up (for FW 2.0.0.6):
Channel: 4 or 9 (yes, that is not 1, 6 or 11 I will come to that)
Wireless mode: 802.11N only
Bandwidth: "40MHz or 20MHz"
Apply
Finish
Save and restart
Go to status log - wireless and look at you channel.
If you selected 4 it will say 6 (oops ASUS)
If you selected 9 it will say 11 (oops ASUS)
THIS is the bug, when running "40 or 20MHz" (40MHz = channel bonding) it seems to add +2 to the channel nr you choose.
This means you can not select channel 1 or 2 (that would be channel 0 and -1) which is a shame because channel 1 can be used for bonding as well.
I made a bandwidth test by copying a file from y NAS via the router, trying channel below:
- Auto (WL500W chose channel 8 which is not a good choice for bonding)
- 4 (=6)
- 9 (=11)
Look in the attatched picture for the bandwidth meassurement,
especially the stability.

I reach about 30 MBit/s = about 4 MB/s so no if you expect 300MBit real throughput then think again - with encryption, IP overhead and so on I would be happy to reach 100MBit)
I would love to see Asus adding 40MHz ONLY as a choice
I would also like to see that they fix the channel bug
