Hi all.
I am using WL500gp V2 with 3.0.3.5

I have Network Neighborhood Share on and FTP share off. I am using Windows XP. I have my external 1 Tb formatted in ext2. My drive mounted on my desktop as network drive so it is easy to drag and drop files.

Often my network drive stops to show my files. For example, I have 100 Gb of data. I click on my network drive and it shows pure clean. In properties it shows that there is 100 Gb written on it, but it does not show anything.

In WL500gp V2 web interface, under Network Neighborhood Share it shows my drive, shows part0 folder, but it is shown empty. I have to stop Network Neighborhood Share, then start it again (sometimes a few times, sometimes I have to restart router) for my network drive to show my files again.

Please help me, so that my files will not disappear from time to time.

Do you have drive letter assigned to you share? and make it a permanent connection?
Firewall?

Thanks for reply.

I think I found the source of the problem. It took me a better half of Sunday, but it's been more than 24hrs without any errors with my drive.

As I understand, WL500gp V2 runs on Linux. And Seagate external drives have one particular problem associated with Linux - they go to sleep mode by default (15 min of inactivity in my case). What happens in Windows if you access drive after that is 10 sec of drive powering up and normal operation. What happens in Linux is 10 sec of drive powering up and connecting in USB 1.1 mode together with all sorts of input/output problem. To fix it you need either to restart drive or OS.

The solution for Linux-based devices is to find computer running Windows, run Seagate Manager and turn off sleep mode for USB drive. I did just that and did not have any faults for more than a day (fingers crossed). I just wish ASUS will post solution to this problem in FAQ or something (apparently this happens to all Seagate external USB drives).

Just a tip. Assign a drive letter to an ftp connection.
Might work better..
