I have an Asus wl-500g with a WD 250GB HDD (one partition FAT32)
Firmware: v1.9.2.7 CR4 (Oleg)

When I log on anonymous (with FlashFXP or via "My Network Places")everything works just fine. I can read and write to the disk.

But, when i try to log on with a user I can't do anything. I don't get up the filelist or anything.

Does anyone know what the problem may be?

did you search already ?

if yes: post a screenshot of your FTP configuration (at the wl500g)
also which error do you get when you are trying to login..

then you logon as user it will show you contents of the ftp_pub folder. This is the reason why ftp listing is empty.

Sorry. I'm feeling a litle bit stupid now. I couldn't post the pictures. So I made a link in stead.

Have you read my message? Just move everything to ftp_pub.

How can I get it to show what is on the disk?

Or do I have to move everything to the ftp_hub folder to show the content of the disk?

Well... did you realise that when you connect as specific user ("test" in your case), you are directed into a specifc folder (\ftp_pvt\test\ or \ftp_pub\ according right access that you give for user "test")?

So, user "test" can't see the root like super user or anonymous user can do!

That's why oleg says you should put your files in \ftp_pub...

Well now I got it working. Thanks a lot for your help.

Now my problem is that I can't transfer a directory with subdirectories to the disk (FlashFXP). I have to make the folder on the disk, and then add the files in the subdirectory from the local harddrive.

This is the error-message I get:
[R] 227 Entering Passive Mode (192,168,1,1,4,4)
[R] Opening data connection IP: 192.168.1.1 PORT: 1028

I have now discovered Samba which I in the beginning weren't able to write to. I found the solution with the $-sign. Networkdrive (\\your router\share$).
This is not stable, and I often get an error-message while writing to the disk.

It seems to me that asus wl-500g is for experts only so thank God for this forum.

I've also tried the "Webdrive" software without any success.

Conclusion so far: I still can't use the disk as a network-disk because it's to unstable and halts in the middle of a filetransfer (looks like it is when i'm transfering big files 50+ MB) .

I try to read the forum, but I don't understand half of it. It's to complex.

BUT ANYWAY. THANKS FOR ALL HELP SO FAR. I'M SURE THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO TO GET THE FTP-SERVER UP AND RUNNING.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can get the server running without problems? Right now it does not.

Now I've added my HDD as a networkstation with Samba, and I can read from the disk just fine, but I can't write to the disk anymore. I get the message: "The disk is write-protected".
I have clicked on properties on the ftp_pub folder an unchecked the "write-protection" box.
The account in the wl-500g has also Read/Write/Erase.
Under "Samba"-config, I have:
Enable Samba Demo mode: Yes
Enable Hidden Read-Write share: Yes

I had problems uploading directories with subdirectories to the FTP-server with FlashFXP. This problem is now solved!!!

THE SOLUTION IS: Change to another FTP-program. For example CuteFTP.

But, I still have problems uploading large files when I have added the disk under "My Computer" with Samba. Small files works fine and downloading works fine.
