Bekijk de volledige versie : Make ISO backups
Is there an equivalent to the "mkisofs" command on the wl500g -
mkisofs -V LABEL -r directory | gzip > mydvd.iso.gz
the goal is to backup folders on the drive to ISO files for burning
Thanks All
Velcrow
Hi,
not exactly an iso, but a *.tar.gz file which is an exact copy of your drive.
example:
tar -cvzf /dest_dir/destination_file.tar.gz /source_dir
which could result in:
tar -cvzf /mnt/opt.tar.gz /opt
(where the complete contents of /opt is put into an archive stored on /mnt/opt.tar.gz
Beware that some 'services' don't like being backed-up when they're running, so make /opt/etc/init.d/rc.unslung as a comment (#) in your startup files.
(Complete procedure is described here: http://www.wl500g.info/showpost.php?p=80912&postcount=1 )
HTH
Thanks Raas -
I am currently using rsync to do a backup of the contents of the drive ( photos, music ) to another networked drive and then compressing and backing them up on CD. ( yes I'm paranoid :) )
The tar solution will work better but is there a way to segment the tar into cd 700mb chunks ( or even DVD friendly chunks )
Thanks Velcrow

tar -cvjML 716800 -f /dest_dir/destination_file.tar.bz2 /source_dir

Another approach that I found
tar -cvzf <directory_name> | split -b 650m mytarsegment
outputs files called - mytarsegment-aa mytarsegment-ab mytarsegment-ac...
To reassemble copy to disk and then
cat mytarsegment-* > file.tar.gz
Now if only I could amke them ISOs
