Hi everyone.

I have a few question about basic configuration for my router, and I would grateful if you could answer them.

I'm using a wl500gp I would like to monitor using the wan port. Basically, is it possible to telnet the router using wan port?

Also, can we assume that wl500g architecture is close to the wrt54g's?

I'm trying to figure out if those vlan0 and vlan1 are interfaces or vlan default names.

Thank you very much for your help

yes this picture applies to wl500gP also.

It is better to use ssh for external access.
You need to setup ssh http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=10307 and enable external access to it through iptables.

If you use this firmware http://code.google.com/p/wl500g/ you can do all the above in teh web-interface

Thanks for your answer. using ssh instead of telnet seems indeed wise.
I'm running my wl500g on openwrt though, but I'll figure out how to do. It must be possible with the webif interface.

As for the architecture, are those vlan0 and vlan1 virtual interfaces or juste virtual lans separating wan from lan ports?
If I want to give each lan port its own vlan, should I include in the vlans the internal port?

i'm not sure about your first question, but you can create your own vlans. Yes you have to add internal port to all vlans

I have a strange problem. As I want to monitor the router through the wan port, I tried to ssh it, but I can't manage to get a response.

As the wan port adress is in 192.168.2.x, I can ping it but not reach it with ssh or telnet. So I thought that maybe you can reach it only with a 192.168.1.x adress, since I can reach it through lan ports which are in 192.168.1.x.
But if I change wan port to 192.168.1.x, the router doesnt know anymore where to send packets as both lan and have a 192.168.1.x adress. And I don't want to change lan adress to another subnet, cause if I mess up something, I'll lose access to the router.

Do you know if you can ssh the wan port, and if you have to be on a special subnet for that?

Thank you.
