Syslog filling up.

Help, my syslog is filled up by dhcp messages as the leasetime of my ISP is very short. Every minute I get this:


Mar 3 12:29:29 udhcpc[127]: Lease of 80.202.221.xxx obtained, lease time 120
Mar 3 12:29:29 dnsmasq[53]: read /etc/hosts - 5 addresses

Is there a way to stop the router from logging these messages?

I recently turned on IP-Passthrough feature of my ADSL modem. So either there is something in my modem to raise this lease time, or most likely its my ISP that has a veryshort lease time, although I really can't understand why.. My IP hasn't changed the 4 months I have had this ISP.

So I guess all I can do is live with it and perhaps exclude the messages from my syslog? Is this possible?

What about setting your WAN to fixed IP in that case?

But before that ask your ISP if he is able to tell you your IP in case the "lease" will change (some aren't...)

Please post firmware version too, perhaps this is one of those firmwares with extra debugging info enabled.

I believe the DHCP lease time is selectable in the webconfig.

Yep, I just got home from work and saw that there is no leastime option in the webinterface for the DHCP client part.

Ok. I have olegs latest. 1.9.2.7 c.

So I guess there is no easy way to turn it of. So I guess I have 2 options.
-Use static ip. Is there any way of discovering that my ip has changed and then switch to dynamic through scripting?
-Regularly go through my syslog and delete these entries. What is the easiest way of doing this? grep?

Or are there any other suggetions?

2h would be fine. Problem is that it's 2 min. (120 sec).. Which means I renew every minute!

And it really is strange. I wouldn't have noticed if I didn't turn on IP-Passthrough feature which also forwardes DHCP. So either its an issue with the ip-pt feature or they actually have a 2 min lease time.. But once again.. The ip-adress i get is very stable. Maybe I'll check with the ISP but they really don't encourage people to mess with the modem and probably won't get an answer.. But I'll give it a shot..

...then just change your WAN to fixed IP (for testing)
if it works the next 3 minutes without big logs keep it and ask the isp (see before) i would say..
