Hello,
Since yesterday, the router is not behaving correctly, accessing HD from windows was unstable but the rest seems fine. I have the latest firmware and Wengi's tutorial done.
I know something is wrong because "reboot" has no effect when logged through ssh. I also tried to reset to factory settings using the GUI but all my settings are still there...
I have saved both the flashfs and settings from the GUI, and I would like to reset completely the router. Can this be done through command line as the option in the GUI has no effect?

Thanks,
Yann

Help anybody?
If I flash the router with the latest asus FW and then flash it again with Oleg's FW, would that do the trick?

flashfs you can disable or clear:

flashfs disable
flashfs clear
nvram you can clear by the following way:
while router is running push reset/restore button on the back and keep it pressed until power indicator begin to flash.
After that disconnect external storage, login through telnet using admin/admin and check that the router behaves consistently. If yes, search for the problem on hdd, or power supply

Thanks for this. If I clear the NVRAM following the steps you mentioned, and restore flashfs and settings from the GUI, do I have to redo Wengi's tutorial (knowing that the HD will still have all the data)?

you mentioned that you saved flashfs and nvram. If so, you can restore it back to the same state without reinstalling. Your task now is to isolate the problem.

If nvram contains the router settings that you configure through the GUI (like mac filter, virtual server, SSID, etc..), then yes it is saved.

Problems started to happen when I pointed Utorrent to my shared storage (I used to download on local HD first and then transfer the video files to the shared storage but large files are causing me problem with Samba. I then decided to download directly on the shared storage, like transmission does).

Thanks for all your help. the reset procedure went fine, and I successfully loaded back the flashfs and router settings. Everything went back to normal, all services are running, and the problem seems to have gone away. I think it's time to do a file check (pre-mount script).
I still don't know what happened to the router! Anyway, if the problem comes back, I will know what to do (and hopefully I will find what the problem is, but maybe Utorrent creating torrent files through Samba was too much for the router?)

Thanks again,
Yann
