Hi,

my problem is that for an unknown reason my router restarts every night, once a day.

Jan 1 01:00:30 syslogd started: BusyBox v1.1.3
Jan 20 01:52:22 ntp client: Synchronizing time with time.nist.gov ...

...
(there are no syslog stopped - like messages)

I have samba - 3.2.4-1 which is quite often used.

ps results also look normal.

Maybe you should stop one or more of your running daemons
and test if it happens again.

A package could be leaking memory and therfor you could run out of memory.

Do you have a swap partition? (you should have)

referring to this possible solution...
I see you got a webcam running? that might be the problem, not only for memory, but it also uses lots of cpu, so the router can become overheated, crash, cool and restart...:p (happened to me once in the summer)

your not running any aditional software according to your ps
try to turn things off you don't need in the webinterface.

hi guys, thanks for the answers!

i did not experience memory leakage or performance problems previously, so I guess it might be overheating, though it's funny why it happens exactly in the middle of the nights.
wpte, did you experience that the router just crashed and rebooted itself?
maybe I should just clean it from the dust? :)

Could be this?

[root@asus root]$ e2fsck /dev/discs/disc0/part3
e2fsck 1.38 (30-Jun-2005)
/dev/discs/disc0/part3 contains a file system with errors, check forced.

just place your router in an open space, and in a cool place:)
usually does the trick...

my router also crashed randomly, nobody was using the network for an hour, that's when it crashed. so when I came back no network:eek:

I had to place my router inside the fridge for 2 minutes before it would start again:D

Finally ipkg update and ipkg upgrade made the trick, on since 11 days...

Didn't you overclock the router?
maybe that's the reason for your overheating?

I did, but not at that time.
Because it overheated without any modifications I decided to buy a 15" laptop-cooler, wich fits both my hdd and router.
It seemed to work that well that I decided to overclock it:p

and I still don't think it's an overclock, since asus standart underclocks it, so I've set the normal clock speed wich is set by broadcom.

this is my setup now:

and the laptop cooler still works perfect:D

is there any uncommon function of the small christmas tree, too? :)
