Hey
Thanks for having the beta packaged !
From my point of view the real new thing of 1.5 is IPv6 support, is there anything more ?
I looking for a good torrent client to fill my new HD. I'm not sure which one to choose. I pay attention to the following points :
Efficency, should work with the limited capacity of wl-500gx.
Configurability, priorities and limits.
Interface is not important, command line is ok.
Any advices ?
Transmission is still under heavy development, but i guess it has the best future.

Thank you for the feedback,
I'm currently investigating rtorrent which seems to meet my exact requirements.
Hi !! I have installed transmission_1.50+r7789_mipsel.ipk and it was working just fine until I have noticed that after a while ( one hour or so ) the process stops by himself . Any idea why is happening this ? :(
Thanks for the great work until now !
I haven't seen this problem (yet)
Suggestions:
Any clues in the logs?
Disk full?
Try running transmission in the foreground with the -f switch,
maybe you will see what happens.
Did you update openssl and libcurl?
Try the older version.
Funny thing. I have deactivated the ppoe relay function and now it is working ....
Strangely, every zip archive is corrupted for me. Repeated download and tried with winrar, winzip, 7zip… Avberk, can you check the zip archives please?
checked. zip file is ok. empty your browsers cache. maybe that helps
Thank you for quick reply. Cleared IE cache but with same result. As I have allready tried on another PC with same error, I gave a shot with different browser – Opera. As suspected, download is now fine :D (bloody Microsoft):mad:

Many thanks for posting the 1.5 version. I installed the 7789 version when it was first posted. Seems to work so much better than 1.4x on my WLHDD. I had a number of partial downloads sitting stalled showing zero peers - they sprang to life once I upgraded to 1.5. The download speeds seem better too.
One question:
Added transmission build 7891.
Long awaited 'seed till ratio is reached' is also included!!!
(tested. works!)
seed time till ratio is reached is included, but i don't think it works.
I can't see this 'Seed til ratio' setting in the web interface. Is there a string I need to add to the settings.json file?
Thanks.
have anyone the latest build from site.. http://trac.transmissionbt.com/timeline ??

in settings.json you must have
"ratio-limit": "2.000000",
"ratio-limit-enabled": 1,

many thanks - what is the build process like i.e. did you have any issues with dependencies?
Added transmission build 8057.
IE webinterface improvements.
yes ,now IE working corectly, but "Access violation" error with Transmission remote GUI ...

hmm.. i'm running it on dd-wrt , maybe there is problem, but all previous builds is working without any problem with remote dotnet and remote GUI ...

This is caused by an RPC interface change recently made by the transmission developers which requires a client change. I've updated transmission-remote-dotnet to work with it, but you'll need to use the binary from svn (the stable, 3.6 as of now supports up to 1.51). Overwrite your existing 'Transmission Remote.exe' (ie. with the dll's) with this file:
http://transmission-remote-dotnet.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/TransmissionClientNew/bin/Release/Transmission%20Remote.exe
Btw, the next version will support language packs. If you're interested in doing one: http://code.google.com/p/transmission-remote-dotnet/wiki/Translations
Hope this helps,

How to set limit for active downloads?
Like in old, 1.22 version - e.g. set 2 active downloads and starting next when one of them is finished.

I've removed the old transmission and installed build 8235 however ran into two issues;
-My settings.json is in a separate location and I load it via the -g option in my startup script however it appears the upload and download settings aren't loaded (via web config)
-When I open transmission remote gui (the dot net client) with the latest build (from this thread) I get the error reported here; http://code.google.com/p/transmission-remote-dotnet/issues/detail?id=36
I've reverted to the old transmission build (1.51-1) and will investigate a possible settings.json change

As a heads up RC1 of 3.7 of transmission remote (.net client) works with the latest build in this forum however the latest build appears to have a problem loading the upload/download settings from the settings.json file. I know the correct settings.json file is being used for two reasons;
- reverting to the previous build with the same startup script all features work as expected
- after upgrading to the latest build the new transmission option (alternate download rate) have been added to the settings file.
Is there a new build available? - is the latest build posted on this forum actually 1.52?

Thanks avkberk...
The 8252 build exhibited the same issue however the 'official' 1.5-1 didn't i.e. the official build works.
8252 still had issues picking up the upload limit.
I've added a bunch of new features into transmission-remote-dotnet. It now uses almost all the new rpc features in the 1.60 beta. Here's the ones I can remember :)
* samba integration (button to open torrent if you've shared your download dir)
* putty integration (i have a script it runs which unrars things)
* alternate speed limits
* port test feature
* enable and update blocklist
* a bunch of languages
* torrent priorities and seed limit ratios
* pieces graph

great work guys, I have it installed and it looks terrific and polished. yet to install v1.6 beta however your remote app caused me to stay with the transmissionbt app. they should distribute this as a part of the official release.
I am still getting 404 error after installing transmission 1.60, I thought the problem was fixed? Would it matter if I change my ip address to something different in configuration it says 192.168. i change it to 182.165. to my settings. Would that matter I dont think so. But wengi's last post says that:
the block list will take a week to be fixed.
Thanks in advance
Hey guys thanks alot tried it out again this morning works great. You guys rock. Thanks
If you're getting a 404 error you should set the TRANSMISSION_WEB_HOME environment variable before starting it.
I released transmission-remote-dotnet 3.8 today with some quite important bugfixes, a couple of nice new features and russian translation. It's also necessary to support the X-Transmission-Session-Id recently introduced in svn to make cross site scripting attacks difficult.
Nice gui for transmission, keep it up :) I wanted to ask what to do with 409 error, where should i put this session id header, in which file and what should it contain.
You shouldn't need to do anything, just use 3.8. When a request is made without the session id header, Transmission returns a 409 which includes the value of the header. transmission-remote-dotnet should retry automatically with the header and keep using it from then.

I have weird problem with transmission 1.61. When I want to upload torrent file from my pc, I select tor file and nothing happens. But when I upload it somewhere else and enter that url in transmission, torrent start normally???
Same problem . Anyway you can upload "manually" by copying the torrent file to the torrent directory. It works only after a restart.
Have a nice day !
Thank you :) this version 1.61 build 8403 works fine.

Since version 1.50, when I start Transmission, CPU usage is almost always high, even with just one active torrent.
I've already reduced the peer limit, but didn't solve the problem.
Can you give some advices to reduce Transmission CPU usage? Is there any setting that I shoud use to reduce CPU usage?
I've updated to Transmission 1.61 (8420). Now, Transmission can't get blacklist file. After it starts (I see it via ps or top) it terminates after 10 second. What should I do?
Also can anybody tell me, where Transmission writes it's logs? And how to configure Transmission to write logs? In /opt/var/log/syslog.log is nothing about it.
Thanks in advance.

Hi there, my intentions were to move finished download (once when finished and seeding) to new location. My programming skills are kind of limited :)) but I've tried (with googling and using part of other script) and I've prepared small script if anyone is interested. It took me 15 minutes and it is sufficient for me for now.
If you can advise on some improvements, deficiencies or other way to do it I am willing to learn something.
Works with Transmission 1.61
LIMITATIONS:
1) This will work only for one completed torrent with status Seeding for each execution. TODO: Repeat it until all torrents are moved-should be easy.
2) If torrent is seeded again from new location it might be a big problem :eek: TODO: Fix it, but I have no idea how to.
SETTINGS:
I've set up this to stop and move data to different location (I can start seeding manually or delete torrent afterward). This can be adjusted by options in the last line.
USE:
cron (repeat every x minutes/hour/daily)
#!/bin/sh
# The absolute path to and including the transmission-remote binary
TRANSREMOTE=/opt/bin/transmission-remote
# The absolute path to where you want your completed torrents moved to
DESTDIR=/mnt/data/_downloads
# Find the first completed torrent
TORRENTID=`$TRANSREMOTE -l | sed -n '/Seeding/{p;q;}'|sed -e 's/...%.*//'|sed 's/^[ \t]*//;s/[ \t]*$//'`
if [ -z $TORRENTID ]; then
echo "Nothing is finished!"
exit
fi
# Stop the torrent and move data to the new location
$TRANSREMOTE -t $TORRENTID -S --move $DESTDIR
Update:
I've found easier way to do some stuff and solved all TODOs :) Any ideas or questions are welcomed.
#!/bin/sh
# The absolute path to and including the transmission-remote binary
TRANSREMOTE=/opt/bin/transmission-remote
# The absolute path to where you want your completed torrents moved to

TORRENTS=`$TRANSREMOTE -l | awk '/Idle|Seeding/'|awk '{print$1}'`

do
LOCATION=`$TRANSREMOTE -t $i -i|awk '/Location/'|sed -e 's/ Location: //'`

I extended your script a bit. Also using some stuff from other sources, particularly the transmissionbt-wiki.
It now does the following:
-Remove torrents that are finished and done seeding (or just sit around idle).
-Move completed torrents to download dir.
-Add new torrents from torrent-folder, given there is space left in the dl queue.
Did I forget anything?? Without the need to seed, this would be simpler, but we wanna be got bt-citizens after all...

The port on transmission remote should be 9091 NOT 8008.
I have installed transmission according to Wengi's great tutorial and it has worked fine since then. However now I would like to run it as non-root user.
How should I do this? Should I ipkg install sudo? Should I use some configuration option in transmission's settings.json? Or some other way?
Oh, and one more thing I haven't figured out in Transmission: How can I set upload rate for a single file? In the web gui there's only option for global settings. And transmission-remote doesn't seem to have any options for this either. I know the OS X version has this function.
(And yes I've asked the transmission forums too... no replies :) )

there is no such thing as sudo on the router:)
but I guess you've set up an account with adduser?
when you assign the user to a group that has rights to run it, it might work?:p
never tried it really, one user is enough;)

New transmission 1.80 is available with support for magnet links and trackerless torrents (see http://transmissionbt.com (http://trac.transmissionbt.com/wiki/Changes)
Unfortunately this version frequently crashes - in my case it survives from 5 minutes to 1 hour.
My recomendation is to stay with older version until fixes are made
There are patches to rtorrent that add magnet links support.

Hi! Im using olegs firmware and transmission, yesterday i used the web gui to download 2 torrent files. (one torrent is a 5G file, other is like 200 files per 200 MB) Everything was working fine, but later i tryed to check the progress but the web interface does not load. What can i do? I installed everything according to the tutorial in this forum. Im using a 1TB external HDD. Thank you for any help.
If you are using new transmissionbt version 1.80 -> probably it has crashed.
You should probably downgrade to 1.76 or 1.77 and wait for bugfixes.
:mad:
Additionally new versions (1.80 1.81 1.82) have speed problems: downloads are very slow :mad:
Thanx for advice, but how can i tell which version i am running? :-) And how can i downgrade?
Edit: Ok i connected to SSH and typed "reboot", after that i was able to access the gui, when i clicked the preferences, theres a small 1.80 at the bottom. :-)
Now i have to figure out how to downgrade... Oh and 1 more question, can i acces the gui from work? :-) thx!
Edit1: SSH & reboot does not work anymore, i am not able to run my gui...
Edit2: I found out that web gui doesnt work on google chrome... In IE8 is everything fine :-) But i still didnt figure out how to connect to the web gui from work...

i want to control transmission over the net. so i tried following numerous tutorials on opening ports and setting up iptables, and have myself a dyndns account for my dynamic ip.
eventually, i can now access FTP over the net and locally.
transmission and SSH has always been accessible locally, but i still cannot access both of them over the net.
i have forwarded the ports (see setup below) using iptables and it is reported as open by port checker sites. i have disabled virtual server and firewall from the GUI but the only thing i can access online is just FTP (same results even when enabled)
btw, here's my post-firewall (using wengi's tutorial) and i'm not that familiar with linux except with what was indicated in his tutorial
#!/bin/sh
# set default policy
iptables -P INPUT DROP
# remove last default rule
iptables -D INPUT -j DROP
# Allow access to ssh server from WAN
iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --syn --dport 21 -j ACCEPT
iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --syn --dport 22 -j ACCEPT
iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --syn --dport 9091 -j ACCEPT
iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 51413 -j ACCEPT

Hi,
I have a wl-500gp and transmission is installed according to Wengis tutorial (http://wl500g.info/showpost.php?p=60933&postcount=4).
When typing 'ipkg list_installed' i get the following information regarding transmission:
transmission - 1.80-1 - Lightweight BitTorrent client and daemon, with web interface bundled.
Previously there was a 'Remove data' button (see picture below), but now after upgrading the button is gone. All other buttons are available.
Does anyone knows how to get it back?
http://www.transmissionbt.com/images/screenshots/Clutch-Large.jpg
I got 1.76 running and have no remove data button in the interface as well. But rightklicking on the torrent gives me the option of "trash data and remove from list".
Yes, they made transmission a bit more dummy proof.
Right clicking and trashing still works. :)
Transmission 1.83 still crashes. Links to older transmission releases are available here: http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=17957

Whenever I am forced to restart the router (apply changes in settings), torrent check takes almost an hour (over 20GB downloading) Am I doing something wrong? Should it not save the download state in /tmp/hardisk/transmission/download/resume or this directory is for smoething else?
Is it any way to skip this torrent check or is it necessary?

The cpu in the router is able to process something like 3-4 MB/s
that's like 83 minutes or so.
It's due to the slow cpu and the lack of enough RAM memory these things take long.
The checking is because of 2 things usually:
1. to see what "blocks" are downloaded yet
2. to be sure all the downloaded "blocks" are downloaded correctly
to stop it from checking it all the time you should pause it before restarting:)
btw, 20GB is an awful lot for routers like these
I had same problem in 1.83 version. So I downgrade back to stable v1.76 and checking is much faster, same as downloading ;-)

you are another person who advices me to downgrade. i thing wengi should put it in his tutorial. not to do ipkg upgrade whenever it is possible. it seems in this case newer isn't better.
btw which firmware are you using now? because i have many problem with my router crashing. i have even disconnected the harddisk now to check if it is the reason.
wpte -> so you think that slow samba transfer rate (I have 2mb/s both over WIFI and cable) within the local network is also limited by router processor?

in my case apart from what you say here, also ssh is not working and normal web interface 192.168.1.1 as well. it helped a little to upgrade router firmware to newest on (jan 24) and i have to try as well to downgrade transsmision to 1.76.
still my router crashes for example when i try to install a game (mounted in deamon tools) which iso is on my router-harddisk using samba share. i don't know is it overloaded or what? the transfer rate is really slow anyway (2mb/s) but i've read that is normal. why does it crash then?

I do not only think it is;)
When you benchmark the harddrive on the router it is capable of reaching ~40MB/s BUT programs like samba or transmission do other things than just write/read to/from the harddrive...
samba is quite a heavy protocol you know...
and transmission requires hashing (generating checksums) which is also a cpu intensive job:)
With my new RT-N16 which has a way faster cpu + more RAM things go a lot faster, up to around 8MB/s;)
... theres a small 1.80 at the bottom. :-)
Now i have to figure out how to downgrade...
You should upgrade before downgrading!!!
Newest version is 1.83!
do an "ipkg update && ipkg upgrade"

wow that's an improvement. but the project http://code.google.com/p/wl500g/ doesn't include oleg's firmware for RT-N16 or is it as well aviable? maybe i can change my wl500gp2 for yours. i think I can still send it back to the shop.

It is available, but it's still alpha.
Here and there are still some problems, and unsupported things.
here is the list of compiled firmware binaries I made from the branch:

So that not everyone need to compile it themselves;)

avberk can we assist in compling this - what's involved - I don't think its fair to keep on asking you to update based on Transmission releases...but it is very much appreciated

You can start and stop the transmission service with a cron script.
simply use
/opt/etc/init.d/S90transmission-daemon start
/opt/etc/init.d/S90transmission-daemon stop
wengi
thanx for reply
so i put that into - /opt/etc/crontab ?
This will be two seperate lines in crontab.
Have a look at http://www.d9x.net/linux/guides/crons.php
wengi
Thank you
I was looking for a link to find out how to use cron

The same problem as well. And in addition program crashes if I add more than 2 downloads and turn on blue turtle with download limits.
You can either edit the config file to not allow download/upload in genereal an then specifie alternate speeds during the morning (http://trac.transmissionbt.com/wiki/EditConfigFiles <-- config options, you would look for the alt-up/down-xxx settings and the config file is located in the transmission/config directory) or you could add two entries to cron to start and stop the transmission daemon directly in the morning

I've been trying to find the answer how to change the transmission folder to be read/write enabled so that I can easily move and upload files in the samba network. Right now I don't have any permission to even access the folder and I've set all the settings in samba to be read/write so don't know whats wrong?
It should works.
first check permission to folder and set
chmod 777 "dirname"
chroot admin:root
if this wont work, try to access to folder over ftp, to debug if problm is in samba.
Hi there,
I am looking for a way how to make Transmission to set user and group nobody to all new files being downloaded. How to do it?
The reason why is that I want to be able to move them around and have same properties as all other files do and so when accessed from FTP to be readable... If possible I don't want to do it post download with some script containing chown...
Now all new downloads are user:admin group:root 644
The other question, I tried to change umask in settings.json but after restart it became the same again e.g. now is 18 (~022), I try to change to 2 (~002?) but after restart of transmission in settings.json is again 18... Any idea why it is changing back?

Thanks for the reply! It worked out great! If anyone would stumble up on this problem in the future I typed the following in the terminal
chmod 777 /tmp/harddisk/transmission
chmod 777 /tmp/harddisk/transmission/download
chmod 777 /tmp/harddisk/transmission/config
chmod 777 /tmp/harddisk/transmission/config/torrents
So now it's easy to move around and delete files in windows shared network :cool:

For umask in transmission: try stopping transmission before setting umask in settings.json. Restart transmission afterwards.
Upgraded and working - thanks again
What about Beta Release: 2.00b1?
Latest transmission (1.93-1), latest firmware (1.9.2.7-d-r1612), config script from Wengi's How to (http://wl500g.info/showpost.php?p=60933&postcount=4) - crashes just after starting any torrent.
How to fix this?
Instructions:
1)skip to step 5 if you updated openssl and libcurl recently.
2)ipkg update
3)ipkg install openssl
4)ipkg install libcurl
5)download and unzip:
http://www.4shared.com/dir/35206050/49153247/Transmission.html
6)copy the ipk file to /opt folder on your asus
7)edit the file /opt/lib/ipkg/lists/optware
and remove the lines belonging to transmission
-ipkg install /opt/transmission_2.00+r10706-1_mipsel.ipk (or install the previous compiled version)
Look here for changes:

Thanks so much now my seed is ok :cool:

Just updated to 2.01 (via ipkg) some days ago, now i have the problem that i dont have any context menu in the Webgui anymore.
If i right click a torrent nothing happens.
I had 1.93 before and there i had a context menu where it was possible to Trash torrents incl. their data.
Has somebody else such a problem or do i have to change some comfiguration.
I treid it on Mac with Firefox, Chrome and Safari. On Windows i tried it with Firefox, so it seems that this isn't a Browser related problem.
Also the Open Button does not work anymore.

You probably already know about these nice programs.
They are both remote GUIs for Transmission. The first is both for windows, Linux and Mac. The second seems more updated and contains more features, but is only for windows

Yeah i know this tools, but this would only be a workaround for my problem.
If it worked in 1.92 it also has to work in 2.01 i think.

Problem solved by a "ipkg install transmission -force-reinstall"
I exactly didn't knew where to post it so I'm doing it here:) The problem is minor but quite annoying from my point of view. In System log you can see all operations tkat transmission-daemon did/does from binding port to saving files. My question is: Is there a way to make tkis logs shorter, what i mean is that this info about saving file isn't that necessary. Here's what I mean:
Jul 21 16:59:45 transmission-daemon[261]: Saved "/tmp/mnt/disc0_3/transmission/config/resume/fname.6f86029d52756445.resume" (bencode.c:1651)
Jul 21 16:59:45 transmission-daemon[261]: Saved "/tmp/mnt/disc0_3/transmission/config/resume/fname.b7d20f1aa1a50db9.resume" (bencode.c:1651)
Other info about launching and upgrade is fine but this sux to see only this info in log.

Hi,
I have searched and goggled for a script that automatic unrar rar-archives when transmission have finished downloading.
It does not seem straight forward, so if anyone has played around with such a script or a different solution for automatic unraring I would appreciate some help.
thx
transmission seems to support executing a global script after torrent completion: https://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/1796
BUT (a big one), the free opensource version of unrar does not support rar 3.0 archives as far as I know... and most of the archives today are 3.0:)
Is rar an Apple thing? I have Transmission on my Mac Mini and haven't had any problems with un-raring things. Are you running OSx or WIndows on your Asus?
No, not at all!
it was originally designed for windows: http://rarlabs.com/
that's why they call it winrar I guess:p
you can install unrar tho:
ipkg install unrar
it won't work with all archives
Just had my transmission re installed and lost my web interface...

I have a desire hd, and for me the build in browser is slow as well... I'm quite used to opera browser because I used to have windows mobile.
opera loads it at a normal speed:)
Also, if you look at the market place and search for "remote transmission" you can use it an an app, didn't tried that tho;)
Thanks!
Remote transmission from market did the trick!It is beta release,and can only start/stop torrents,but that is what i need.
Do you use opera mini or opera mobile ?
Main reason for this is that I had severe power failures,and if transmission works,after turning on again ,performs endless checks.I want to prevent that by pausing torrents ,if I am at home.
Thanks!

The mini version usually works on java or something... you don't really want that:p
power problems?
you've got those special boxes with batteries to prevent hardware damages during power outtage:p
a bit overkill for your router probably:p
But makin your own laptop-like battery is quite easy:D
I have ups if that is what you ment by "box":p
Desktop works for about 20 minutes on it, but when destop is off router turns off after about 1 min.
Thanks man!
Edit :I've found "transdroid" it just works !
I downloaded a torrent of private site where I work when I enter in this error:
-Tracker returned an error: Unrecognized host ***.***.***.*** - Go to http://*****.COM to sign up or login.
, you want to know any solution to correct this
