Hey

I've bought Asus WL 500g premium so I can get online wireless from my laptop.

But I have some problems in when I turn on the power for the system.

From the from internet provider I've got a router with following: lan a, lan b, lan c, lan d and WAN ports.

From the box in the wall a wire is connected to the router in "wan". From this router's lan a, a wire is connected to the asus-router in "wan".

Well, my Dekstop computer is connected with Asus in lan 1.

I've runned the installation at my laptop so it could get connected wireless.

Here's the problem:

The first 15 min. everything is working perfectly on both computers.
Then the connection is disabled for another 15 min, and I can see that it's the connection from my provider to the "provider" router that's turned off.
When these 15 min has gone, the connection is able again and for the rest of the time until I shutdown my computers and turn off the power.

I can see at my Desktop after running ipconfig that the Ip-adress it is getting is from the Asus-router.

Anyone who can help me so I don't get this 15 min off-internet-connection?

the wires seem to be plugged in correctly;)

what firmware do you use?
and what are the routers wan settings? (automatic ip, static ip, PPPoE, PPTP, BigPond, L2TP)

automatic ip and static ip usually work... but there was something about the encryption in PPPoE and the others I believe.

is the asus in bridge mode?
If not do so or connect the wire to one of the LAN ports instead of WAN.
but then you gotta deactivate DHCP on the asus as well.

Your setup should work, even if its not optimal couse you create a sub network by plugging the asus in the WAN.

#3 I've not installed any firmware since I bought it 3 days ago.

Automatic IP.

#4 I'm a bit of a rookie in this area, so I don't know if it is in bridge mode. Could you try to explain me how to deactivate it?

what thejew says about bridge mode could be a good idea...
however, I'm not sure if the asus router can do downloading via this way... you probably need 2 cables from your modem then.

basicly what you do is, switch off the DHCP server, and plug the cable that is now in the asus wan port, in lan a port.
this way the router should act as switch only, so you will internet via the modem, and not send everything trough the asus.

I'm not to sure how mutch functionality you want?

I should only be able to go on the internet by wire for my Desktop and wireless from my laptop. How do I switch off the DHCP server? I reach the setup by writing 192.xxx.x.x in my browser..

Web-based interface

Main menu
IP Config

submenu
DHCP Server

options

Enable the DHCP Server? ( ) YES ( ) NO

Screeshots would work much better.

You should contact your ISP first and run some basic tests.

Learn what is mask and lan IP of the router provided by your ISP.
For a mask 255.255.255.0
and IP address like 192.168.1.1

network address is 192.168.1.0
and host address is 1.

As 1 is already assigned to your server
so your PC connected directly to your ISP server
gets IP addresses like 192.168.1.X x = 2....254
is not otherwise on your ISP's router.

To build a subnet (connecting anothr router)
you have to change network address to avoid packet conflicts.

So LAN IP for your 2nd (Asus ) router have to be different than
network address at your first router.

Pivate network C class range is : 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255

So you can change 3rd octet to set IP address of your Asus run subnet.

Just write down IP and mask assigned to your PC in 1 router and 2 routers
configurations and let them us know.
