Hey

I got my self a wl500g and it looks great.
I want to install it as a client on my wireless network who is already installed (A 3com AP (192.168.1.1) ). I also have a logitech webcam attached witch I would like to watch.

Here is what I`ve done:
- Sat the wan configuration to DHCP
- Enabled DHCP server (IP: 192.168.3.2-15, GW: 192.168.1.1)
- Sat the Lan conf. to 192.168.3.1
- Sat the SSID and WEP as the other AP.
- Sat one channel lower than the other
- Sat operation mode as:

It connects to the other AP but I can`t reach it. It apears it did not receive an IP. How should I set it up so I can connect to it?
I can only see one network to, so I wonder how I can see witch one I connect to. Is there a howto?

Thnx!!!

The gateway in the DHCP server configuration should be wl500g itself, not your other router.

Also, which firmware you're using? Is this Asus firmware? If so, have you read known bugs section in the FAQ?

Thnx!

I have FW 1.8.1.9, is it wice to upgrade?

I also sat extended mode as ethernet bridge, is that correct?
I didn`t set an operation mode. Should I?

It appers I have taken over the 3com AP. Not the other way.

Is there a howto out there?

Looks like you've missed some very important thing in the known bugs section...

6. Client mode does not work as expected: could not access internet in client mode
Affected versions: all stock firmwares, no workaround Fixed in the 1.9.2.7-3 custom

Your turn...

Okei, thnx.

Does that mean that I can`t use this router for my porpuse?
If I understood what you said, the newest FW wasn`t able to run in client mode either?

Is there an other way?

The only way is either to use Hybrid WDS mode or flash custom firmware. Alternatively you could politely ask ASUS to fix this bug and use stock firmware.

Is there anyone out there who have done this with custom made FW?
Is there a place to download custommade FW`s?
Or is it easy to customize it my self (Is there maybe a howto available)?

Thnx alot for your advices btw!

Read forum rules, use search, navigate thru forums, read this page (http://oleg.wl500g.info/).

Great thnx!!

I sendt a mail to asus, and I look in to customizing FW.
One last question: Can you use WDS with other AP`s wich doesn`t have WDS support?

no both sides should support this
