Please pardon my ignorance as I seek help getting pointed in the right direction. Here's some background:
I recently purchased a WL520GU. My goal is to hook up my WD My Book Essential Edition 750 GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000XRI034) to this router so that I can store files that reside on our WinXP PCs and our MacBook.
Initially, I somewhat blindly started following marcnesium's WL-500g Premium Howto (http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=5909) and r0kanon's Followup (http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=6222). I was able to flash the firmware using Oleg's WL520gu-1.9.2.7-10.trx, but then encountered an issue while trying to create the filesystems with this command:
mke2fs -j /dev/discs/disc0/part2
(Similar to r0kanon, I set up my swap on partition 1.)
I got this error:
Could not set up superblock
For kicks, I went ahead and spent several hours reformatting my external HDD using the NTFS format. However, while this was taking place, I continued researching my issue. After reading this post (http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=15895), I'm now concerned that I may be oversimplifying my approach. (For eg, should I be using FAT32? If so, do I really have to create ~20 partitions to utilize the entire drive?)
I'd greatly appreciate any tips/suggestions/feedback for setting up my WD External Hard Drive so that I can store files that reside on our WinXP PCs and our MacBook. Thanks in advance.
